I think this is an extreme example, but Amazon shows the list price of Casino Royale on BluRay as $38.99. They offer it for $22. 300 Blu-Ray: List $34.99, Sell $23.95. $300 HD-DVD/DVD Combo lists for $39.99, but sells for $27.95. Animated films are absolutely the easiest source material to reproduce by either a DVD or TV because of the artificially generated images. I'm completely happy to go with the traditional DVD release and view my HD-DVD upconverted picture. With the near HD upconversion, I can view any Disney or Pixar animated film I choose at nearly the same picture quality as live action HD source. Add that I already OWN most of these titles on DVD and I've saved a ton of cash.

Michael

Comments on Ratatouille joins Cars for November 6th Blu-ray release

Yeah, ur saying that coz u 'cant' watch it in HD.

HD animation if anything looks the best in HD with HD sound and HD picture...

Hooray for Disney Pixar!

Farenhyt

Comments on Ratatouille joins Cars for November 6th Blu-ray release

No, you're missing my point entirely.

I'm saying that first of all, ALL CGI effects (including animated films such as those Disney or Pixar produces) are entirely digital effects to begin with. The resolution provided with an upconverted HD-DVD player is virtually identical to that of an HD source. I am running all my audio in pure digital as well so there is also ZERO difference between a traditional DVD and the HD version. Plus, I already own each of these titles (with the exception of Ratatouille of course) so I'm saving the $25-30 additional cost just to duplicate something I already own. THAT was the point I was trying to make. I simply see very little reason to spend so much to get so little when I can spend the same money on films where it will make much more of an impact to go with the HD version instead.

I am not singling out these BD titles simply because they are BD. If this were a case of the same titles on HD-DVD my feelings would be exactly the same. I have limited entertainment dollars to spend just like everyone else. I'm not going to spend my hard earned monies where I'm not going to get the best return on my investment.

Michael

Comments on Ratatouille joins Cars for November 6th Blu-ray release

Check out "Happy Feet" on HD DVD. The CGI is usually rendered at a high resolution for the theatre. It is then scaled down to dvd resolution where it looses alot of the high details. You cannot get those details back by upconverting. The special edition of Bugs Life (iirc) had a "extra" story about how they re-rendered for DVD resolution and home aspect ratios. They will likely re-render Cars and the rest at 1080/24p.
