Daewoo shows off Blu-ray Profile 2 player at IFA

Straight from IFA 2007 in Berlin comes Daewoo's surprise entry into the Blu-ray camp with the company's first player, the DBP-1000. Interestingly, even though Daewoo is probably more well-known for their Trutech ODM devices -- or even their autos -- this player supposedly supports the full 2.0 Profile for Blu-ray Disc, including BD Live internet functionality, picture-in-picture, and local storage. Pricing and availability are nowhere to be found, but it won't be soon enough for Blu-ray fans to see players with that interactive functionality built-in like competing HD DVD players have. Another picture after the jump.

According to a published report, Venturer has revealed pricing for its recently-announced SHD7000 HD DVD Player.
As we first reported yesterday, budget electronics manufacturer Venturerplans to release a value-priced HD DVD player ahead of the holiday shopping.

Today, DVD Town is reporting that according to a Venturer rep, the deck will be made available at a record-low suggested retail price $199.
As we've previously reported, the player's announced specs include 1080i video output via HDMI and Dolby TrueHD support.
No word yet on a release date, nor whether the deck will be carried by Wal-Mart, Venturer's largest North American retail partner. Stay tuned...
Why would you post the info. about the Venturer HD-DVD player? You just look foolish by doing so. Too many people are too childish regarding HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I could care less which one comes out on top, just picked up the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on and will grab a Blu-Ray player if/when they come down a bit more in price.
Looks nicer than the Sharp one. Really cool design and good functionality. Hope it won't be as overpriced as the other Blu-Ray players.
And people wonder why the arguing back and forth is so childish....
I would never trust a Daewoo, but it's a nice looking unit.
the comapny said it will introduce it for under 500$ so know any companiy there inrtoduce it for teh very low price or 499!!!!!!!but serious company said under 500 so escpet 499 and getting for 470 on the best sales wow ifnaly blu-ray has cauht up to hd dvd with quarlity versuse preformance took long enouf!!!!!!!
hehehehehehehehe lol man u had me laughin cuz that was so stupid. but in a funny way... i mean come on...lol lol lol lol wassup with that tho man? ha
Daewoo has themselves spread out... Cars, electronics... and even firearms?

If it's anything like the cars it will be a lemon.
Wow, it's amazing that Daewoo could very well scoop the "big boys" with a fully functional, gorgeous unit like this. Of course, an announcement doesn't mean much until we see the actual shipping units. I'd be very surprised if they price it at $499--at least here in the U.S. where Daewoo isn't exactly a household name. Now at $299 or less this could be a very hot ticket.
I hope Daewoo can get this out the door allot cheaper then 'under $500' because if BD can get a cheap mass market player - by the way second tier Korean manufacturer trumps all tiers of Chinese manufacturers - for the holidays then the Paramount/Dreamworks Animation deal will not be the blow that it could be if Blu-Ray players at their cheapest are still hovering around $150 more then the cheapest HD-DVD players.
If Daewoo can pull this off at under $300 MSRP in North America then they and Blu-Ray will have a real winner this X-Mas
