Where's the news of the new Integra HD-DVD? You post this ridiculous thing, and you post the news of the new Sony Blu-Ray player. Hell, you even posted news that Ratatouille was coming to Blu-Ray. Everytime I come to this site there is always some Blu-Ray playing device that no one can afford and we just get post after post of this stuff with no mention whatsoever about anything from the HD DVD side, and yet as someone who earned an expensive piece of paper called a degree, I am supossed to believe that this site is impartial. That is a load of crap. I even earlier today submitted a a news tip about the Transformers release date and features. This wasn't some little movie, this was a huge movie and the fact that hasn't been covered is ridiculous, not to mention any CEDIA HD DVD news going unreported.

I have been holding judgment for a while and visiting often to get hi def news because I am a high def junkie, but this site is now sadly the Fox News of the High def world.

Calvin

Comments on Sony intros the HES-V1000 media server and 200 disc Blu-ray player

Wow, I know Sony's an innovative company, but I didn't know there was a market for hi-tech file cabinets...

Seriously, how many Blu-ray owners have that many discs? Furthermore, even if someone had that many, would they even WANT to use this thing? I'm sorry, but Dave and Nfinity are right; this screams "biased" in the worst way. And for the record, if there's one thing I've seen consistently on sites like AVSForum.com, it's actually HD DVD owners who have close to 200 discs. And if they own both formats, they almost always post that they have MORE HD DVDs than Blu-ray discs, usually by a margin of 2:1 (damn that dreaded ratio).

I'm sure neither consumer would be remotely interested in this "media server." Maybe it will be the new monolith in the "2001" remake. You never know...

Paul Fernandez

Comments on Sony intros the HES-V1000 media server and 200 disc Blu-ray player

This is unfortunate. Even though it retails for $3500 on the Sony website, I've found several online retailers offering it for $2600 with free shipping, which I imagine means that most brick-and-mortar retailers will have it on the floor for $3k-ish.

Most people spend $2500-$3000 for equivalent products. I remember a few years ago, my mom went to Tweeter, where they sold her a ridiculous Harmon-Kardon setup for close to $4k. The speakers were extra, and so was the TV. Now, if I'd gone with her, she wouldn't have spent that much, but there are a lot of people out there willing to spend an extra thousand dollars just to avoid having to set up 6 different pieces, or having to turn the computer on just to listen to their Norah Jones catalog.

As far as the Blue-Ray thing goes, even if you're not a fan of them, who cares? This machine plays DVDs at 1080p and plays all your CDs as well as records them.

For tech wizards and enthusiasts, this may seem like a waste of money, but for the average Joe without time or patience, this thing is perfect.

Krisko101
