For quite some time they have had affordable, less than $1000 speakers. I picked up my pair about a decade ago for $300 new. That's pretty cheap, and they still sound absolutely incredible in a smaller space (office or bedroom). The catch is that they aren't sold in mass-market, Big Box, chain stores.  You must purchase them through a smaller dealer.
