The History Channel HD launched, but where was DirecTV?

In the world of tech news, there's plenty of vaporware. Un-fulfilled promises run ramped and like everyone else, sometimes we forget. But as commenter Kenny G points out, the History Channel HD launched yesterday on DISH network and DirecTV wasn't there to see it. Sure, DirecTV 10 isn't operational just yet, and they'll probably have more HD than anyone else by the end of this month, but that doesn't change the fact that they were touting how proud they'd be, to be the first to carry the History Channel in HD. We're sure DirecTV wished we'd missed this, but no such luck thanks to Kenny.
Who cares? I can wait a week or two.
Well Directv seems to be good at hype and so many journalist get caught up in it. Meanwhile the smart observers are noticing that it's DISH that is actually delivering the HD and without much fanfare. DISH I think is the best kept secret in HD.
I agree that Dish is the best for HD right now. I'll compare the two in Nov when I'm thinking of switching from cable. One question, do both DirecTV and Dish still require a phone line and a contract? Its bad enough that I might have to sign a contract (which I have never had to do with cable) but I refuse to get a phone line.

Dish just released an update a few weeks ago where you can connect your receiver via broadband instead of phone line. I have a Vip622 DVR and it has Homeplug technology built in. Just get a powerline adapter (Netgear X102), plug it into your router, plug into the wall and viola! Your receiver is now connected to the internet through your electrical wiring!
You don't need a phone line. I have DirecTV and no home phone. The only thing a phone line does for you is to order pay-per-view using a remote. When I want to order something, I just go online and order it that way.
I have Directv and you don't need a phone line. They can communicate with your receiver via satellite. The only drawback of not having a phone line is ordering PPV from your remote. You have to do it online or by phone.
comcast will have this and 4 other new HD channels added by the end of november
