It has to do with the new interactive features software the D* has running for when you hit the buttons. It's basically a layer between your remote and the broadcast to give you new features like the scoreboard and player updates. I can't stand the delay either but it is what it is...and the player updates are quite cool.

John from Chicago

Comments on It's September 19th, do you know where DirecTV's HD channels are?

When sending signals across the coax, you send signals across certain frequency ranges called bands.

In order to get more bandwidth, DIRECTV is making use of another new band called the B-Band.

However, the HR20 can only receive frequencies within certain bands and this new B-Band is outside of what the HR20 can receive.

So the BBC will take this new frequency band and convert it into a band the HR20 can receive.

If there were no BBCs, all HR20's would need new tuners capable of receiving a wider set of frequencies $$ or the extra bandwidth would go unusable :(

drew

Comments on It's September 19th, do you know where DirecTV's HD channels are?

"Sure, DirecTV never said today was the day"

Actually yesterday I called DirecTV and the CSR said they were going live at 6:00 am EST today...well, I woke up this morning, and a big NOTHING!
