Discovery HD theater looks amazing to me on DirecTV.

Remember that these channels are being broadcast in MPEG4 instead of MPEG2 like the old channels. MPEG4 is much more efficient than MPEG2, so they can fit more channels into the same space with an actual increase in picture quality. Plus they have 2 satellites dedicated to broadcasting these new channels. DirecTV launched these satellites to get an increase in overall bandwidth. As for the "D10 isn't ready" thing, DirecTV has posted an official statement on that several days ago stating that the national beams and the satellite checked out fine, but a subset of spotbeams had unspecified problems. It was stated in a way that would leave DirecTV open to shareholder suits if incorrect, so I kinda believe they meant what they said.

HAVE RE-RUN THROUGH THE GUIDED SETUP TO SPECIFY THAT THE RECEIVER IS SETUP FOR THE NEW B-BAND CONVERTER SIGNALS.

I capitalized that because I figure that that particular step might be more obscure to people out there. Not to yell it, but to bring more attention to it.

The satellite dish needs to be 5-LNB Multi-Sat, and the Receiver needs to know that it's hooked up to a 5-LNB Multi-Sat by rerunning the Guided Setup.

Otherwise, the Receiver won't be set up to look for the new channels on the BBand Converter and you'll get nothing.

Is anyone else having problems switching channels on their HD boxes for the games. It takes a good 25 seconds for the channel to change. On the regular old non-HD boxes, they change instantly... what gives? I have 2 HD boxes (with DVR and without) with 5-LNB dish and the B-Bands.

In order to get more bandwidth, DIRECTV is making use of another new band called the B-Band.

However, the HR20 can only receive frequencies within certain bands and this new B-Band is outside of what the HR20 can receive.

So the BBC will take this new frequency band and convert it into a band the HR20 can receive.

Anyways, i will keep enjoying the underhyped Dish network channels that still dont exist on DTV yet. I guarantee Dish will have all the same channels as dtv, they just dont spend the millions in advertising.
