I recall an online discussion of video quality from satellite providers. If I recall, Dish quality was significantly higher than DirectTV's. Does anyone know if their quality has been improved and, if so, how it compares to Dish's?
Discovery HD theater looks amazing to me on DirecTV.
Remember that these channels are being broadcast in MPEG4 instead of MPEG2 like the old channels. MPEG4 is much more efficient than MPEG2, so they can fit more channels into the same space with an actual increase in picture quality. Plus they have 2 satellites dedicated to broadcasting these new channels. DirecTV launched these satellites to get an increase in overall bandwidth. Has Dish launched any new sats lately?
DirecTV's MPEG-2 channels (their current HD channel line-up) isn't as good as DISH's HD line-up. DirecTV's MPEG-4 channels (currently only local HD channels that are broadcast) are the same or better. The new HD channels use MPEG-4.
“An engineer explained to us that hundreds of ear impressions were gathered in the name of research, and while each one obviously boasted its own unique shape and size, one single characteristic remained uniform across the board: the entrance into the ear canal is not a perfect circle, it's an oval.”
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
