The pricing on TV boxsets on both sides of the format is ridiculous. $99 MSRP is insane for what is essentially only 24 episodes, irregardless of what Amazon may charge in the end.
I'll wait for a used copy to show up on some forums or on eBay. Let someone else take the depreciation hit on this.
Bill; I don't really understand why you pick on the MSRP. You don't have to pay that. Most people don't. MSRP is a fairly meaningless figure.
Also, you don't have to think of it as "only" 24 episodes. That's the run time equivalent of 10 movies, and it's in HD.

7 discs? damnit...i'm still waiting for the day that either hd dvd or blu ray can make discs big enough to fit a season on 1-2 discs, save some shelf space and excess packaging....
Well isn't this what we kept being told about these formats to begin with? I remember distinctly how studios were going to be able to fit entire trilogies in HD on one disc, etc, etc. Yet to happen...
You get the feeling they could squeeze it down more, but I'm sure the rental industry would rather have more discs to rent to you than less. That way netflix can keep me tied up for a while with my quota....
Who says format competition is 100% bad? Heck, BD campers should be glad studios have deigned to use non-MPEG2 codecs. Without the competition and the huge quality disparities, everything would still be MPEG2, rather than merely half of everything.
Agreed. This was a "neato" feature when DVD first came out to add to the "wow" factor. But imho, like you, I think it has run its course. There are few films that have actually taken advantage of the special features. Lord of the Rings and The Matrix are the only two that I was really impressed with.
If it is something that must be done out of precedence at this point, then our community at least, would I'm sure appreciate edition that do away with this nonsense and use the room to put 1+ films on the same disc or a less compressed file.
yeah...the pathetic thing is since BDA and HD DVD are in this stupid ass war to try and who why they're format is more superior than the other, they're stuffing all these stupid extra features behind the scenes, and "what this actor does to get pumped up for the scene" garbage onto the discs. seriously, how many special features do people actually watch when buying a movie?
I might have paid that much for season 1, but season 3 isn't worth two bucks, HiDef or not.
Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff have murdered that series.
