I do not see BD as a consumer friendly product at all. I think the analogy for BD and UMDs is good, but many do not understand that analogy. From a consumer stand point, they will buy HD-DVD because its cheaper. PS3 owners will buy BDs because there PS3 will play them and they can play PS1 and 3 games. I left out PS2 games because its stated by Sony that the new PS3 40GB model wont be able to play PS2 games due to lack of PS2 hardware and emultion technology. But back on subject, I have grown to dislike BD the past year simply because of the amount of hardware inconsistancies and blunders with DRM. Now, most of you will say, Well, if Toshiba wasnt the only company making the players, there would be problems. Id have to agree and disagree, because the HD-DVD format is locked and the only thing a manufacture can do is add features, not delete. Also, the only DRM is AACS, as opposed to the need to update profiles and also add BD+ functionality.

*SIGH*

-dad

Sean

Comments on Samsung to release BD+ update this friday

OOOHHHHHH BOY, Nothing like some working DRM!!! Man I just can't wait to Pop in the Double DRM Movie because after all I'm a Thief and just can't be trusted. Oh wait, I'll NEVER, EVER, have anything to do with that DRM infested garbage. Sorry, but a little extra disc space is not worth it. I would rather use UpConverted DVD's by a mile. This has nothing to do with the PS3. If Blu-Ray failed in the end, the PS3 will still be using it.

We're finally at the point now where Companys are releasing DRM FREE Music, and yet people want Double that Garbage on Movie Disc's. WHY?? Are you people nuts? Sony has just been so great with this DRM crap in the past. Man are fanboys blind.

JBDragon

Comments on Samsung to release BD+ update this friday

"and yet people want Double that Garbage on Movie Disc's."

C'mon..it's naive to think the BD camp is putting all this extra DRM/security into their spec for the consumer. I've never read or heard of a single consumer advocating BD+, AACS, or any other form of DRM on their Blu-Ray discs.

Isn't it obvious that this security is being implemented in favor of (and probably at the request of) the industry? I'm sure if the MPAA could have it their way, we as consumers would have to download some 'Security Patch' update every week or more.

I've always been in favor of BD due to it's technical specs - but the BDA can only turn their back on the consumer in favor of the industry for so long. As Interested Watcher stated, it's ridiculous to think that the average av guy will put up with required 'updates' just to watch a retail movie he bought.

Jyncus

Comments on Samsung to release BD+ update this friday

How frequently are these updates going to be required?
