Those of us anxious to get their Joe Kane-approved tweak on will have to wait a bit longer than originally planned. The originally planned October 30th release has been moved to "early next year," with no details given for the delay. While HD DVD owners can use the previously released dual-format disc, this latest "HD Basics" version was slated for release to both the blue and red camps. The new disc is also the first of the DVE offerings designed specifically for HD setup, and uses a more streamlined menu that is meant to appeal to both newcomers and prosumers. We've found the DVE series to be both practical and educational; hopefully the delay is just Joe Kane poring over the details. In the meantime, there are some good tips around for dialing in your setup.
This really bad news. I already pre-ordered it from amazon and badly waiting for it.
Question: How good is the DVD version for calibrating HDTVs, especially large sized 1080p plasma models like the 65" and 103"???
MaShoKaSh... If you can afford a 103" plasma then you wouldn't be asking that question because you'd be calling Joe Kane himself to calibrate it. Oh Joe?
Using something authored in one color space and resolution to calibrate playback using another color space and resolution seems a little silly. But, if you can afford a 103" 'HDTV' (something different than a 103" projected image from a $2-3K projector) then you get what you pay for.
That only does so much though. There is a service port in the back that you can get to with the exception of on the Sharp models. It gives you a lot more to work with. The equipment to do this unfortunately costs an arm and a leg and maybe your first born child, or paying someone such as Steve Jr. to do it. The DVD is an excellent idea still because it does do you some good, but for the full potential you should have someone calibrate your set if you have the money for a set that big then it's a drop in a bucket for a huge return on your set.
I wonder if they delay has anything to do with Blu-ray and there unfinished spec?
Nature's Journey was delayed for Blu-ray due to compatibility issues with certain players and we all know the horrible track record recently with FOX releases and their problems.
