As an HD DVD owner, I don't see the gap closing any towards the end of the year, unless software prices on the HD DVD side drop, or a major studio defects or goes neutral.
Transformers has made an impressive showing, and I don't think SM3 or Die Hard will sell the same kinds of numbers, but Blur-ray has quite a few major titles hitting this Christmas that will help them hold the lead.
