Circuit City lists LG's BH200 combo HD DVD / Blu-ray combo at $799

Update: Yep, too good to be true -- it's back up to $999 now.

Sadly, dual format players will be obsolete once that other format goes away for good. Umm... and I'm not referring to blu-ray!
I see no reason why it should be obsolete just because one format goes away. The person still get's to play the surviving format. And anyone buying a combo unit like this one will still have spent less than many Blu-ray early adopters.
The format war could end today and the movies I have on the losing format will still be able to be played. Nothing obsolete about that.
You're right, in 10-12 years, HD DVD probably will be obsolete and we'll have to buy new players.

At $799 it is an afforable solution to the format war. And if one format goes under you can still use it. This player culd be on a lot of peoples radar for Christmas if it really is $799.
h4idol you're laying it on a little thick after that podcast but uhh for adopters of both formats this is a great way to keep your entertainment center nice and organized
The blue and yellow place had it on sale for $799 two weeks ago. They also had to floor models for $499. I almost bought one...but I already sunk 500 clams on the HD-A1 a year ago. I will just have to take pleasure in waiting 2 minutes for it to boot up and open the tray and another minute to cue up the disc.
You're probably talking about the BH100, the first gen LG combo unit. This is the new model, which actually meets HD DVD spec.

Sweet -- thanks for the tip. I believe there's another dual format player from Sammy coming out in December.
h4idol Must have been "gang-probed" by space aliens in his past. All I see is anti-HD. What T.V. shows do you watch? Are they in Blu-Ray or HD? On a Blu-Ray T.V. or HD? Sorry buddy HD-DVD isn't going anywhere.
Wait ... why is this a consideration? Yesterday I read an article in Video Business stating that Samsung just announced their dual-format player is expected to come out at $599 before the end of the year, if I recall correctly. Maybe $499. I don't remember specifically, but I know that it was several hundred cheaper than this.
No, unless something changed, the Samsung Dual-Format player is going to be $999 MSRP.
Samsung hasn't even broken the $500 MSRP barrier with a Blu-ray only unit yet, much less a dual-format player.
Hmmm... I'll have to check again. I have the PDF at home. But I thought I read that someone was coming out with a dual-format player at $499.
That would be cool, but I doubt it. Could be wrong though.
Samsung is releasing a $499 Blu-ray player, which probably would have also been mentioned in that article.
That's completely possible. I'll check when I get home. That would be cool if someone would come out with a sub-$500 dual player. That would be a first, HUGE step to this whole format war becoming even more useless than it already is.
Honestly, I see the whole BR/HDDVD fight ending up like DVD-R and DVD+R. It won't matter because all drives will eventually handle both. Of course, it also wouldn't matter if the studios would stop it with their format exclusivity.
I think they put the BH100's $799 clearance price on the wrong item.
TrentD I've seen it running for 899.99 in Best Buy's system. Then again that might mean nothing since retails sometimes reraise list prices too.
It's also 799 at amazon - you just have to click the "click here to see price, too low to advertise!"
the site now says $999
Amazon has the samsung dual format player listed for pre-order at $799 also:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BD-UP5000-HD-DVD-Blu-Ray-Player/dp/B000VDG0UK/
The BH100 was also cheaper at Circuit City, actually the same price I recall, so I wouldn't be shocked if this is the right price.

Dude, enjoy watching your HD-DVDs or Blue-Ray (whichever horse you choose not to ride) in cruddy low-def for the next five years+ before the battle ends. Talk all you like about the future while I enjoy every movie possible in high-def, Blue-ray or HD-DVD.
I received free shipping while I purchased Toshiba 19" LCD HDTV Combo at $$429.99 from Circuit-City store at Couponalbum.com.....!
