The amount of electronics thrown away rather than recycled in 2007.

Wow, looks like all the HD-DUD users are dancing around their HD players in happiness; you all forget that cracking the BD+ is not going to help since all the manufacture has to do is change the code and all that work is for nothing. Then slysoft will have to start over again :)
Anthony, you are assuming that they left a window open, and that it isn't a crack in the foundation.

You are also missing the point that it was being touted as "uncrackable" and it was that 'supposed' security that has won some studio support.
Looks like defective by design is losing. Chalk one up for user freedom. Slysoft has a 20% discount until Nov 5th (free 30 day trial too). I think I'll take them up on that. This includes updates into perpetuity for their products.
Also Andrew, now that Slysoft has broken BD+ I expect them to be able to do it even faster next time. Remember, everything that is necessary for decoding the video is right in front of them when you use this type of encryption. The only hope for the bad guys is to "hide" it well.

With the exception of not being able to get a particular title or content on one format vs. another, the current street pricing to support both formats within the home seems rather trivial to a point where even discussing this is absurd.
Let's say you are a BD fan. You are probably spending $450 to get a BD-capable player. Well, you will spend less than half of that amount to also support HD DVD. Or, you could spend the combined amount on a universal (ahem, combo) player.
I really see this whole thing as a non-argument. In the time that we've spent debating the issues, the prices of the players have dropped by at least half, and we're into a 3rd generation set of players. Its like kicking a dead horse that has already decomposed.

Awesome news. It won't matter to those early adopters who could easily afford blu-ray players, but for Joe 6-pack, who wants and feels compelled to backup every movie purchase so that he can pass it on to his children as a sort of family heirloom, this is huge. No worries now Joe, come on and join the blu!

The way that bd+ works is that it is supposedly much easier to change the BD+ keys in a way that if a disk is cracked future ones will require a new crack. So it is possible to change the key without making future or current disks unplayable.
The article is very light on details and has no link in it. It's unknown if you will have to download a crack for each disk.
So for now HD-DVD and BD are dead equals in terms of drm.
Actually, on second thought, this sucks for Blu. J6P is probably going to go HDDUD once all the studios leave Blu now that the only reason they were with us in the first place is gone. I'm going to go cry in my Blu koolaid.
