Also Andrew, now that Slysoft has broken BD+ I expect them to be able to do it even faster next time. Let's say you are a BD fan. You are probably spending $450 to get a BD-capable player. Well, you will spend less than half of that amount to also support HD DVD. Or, you could spend the combined amount on a universal (ahem, combo) player.

I really see this whole thing as a non-argument. In the time that we've spent debating the issues, the prices of the players have dropped by at least half, and we're into a 3rd generation set of players.
