Which is one of the reasons plasma is dying a slow death. In a few years when the heavy hitters put out their OLED's it's all but over.

greyscale

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

It is extremely rare that you will ever burn in a plasma. For example I tested my Panasonic (after the first 100 hours) and left a Nintendo Wii on there for 8 hours and there was not even a hint on image retention let alone burn in. I have have ever witnessed a friends Sharp Auqos LCD that had "burned in" after a period of watching ESPN.

Duncan

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

well its either lcd or dlp for me to much gamming to spend that type of money on a nnice plasma tv.

daryl austin

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

Greyscale you are obviously an LCD fanboy. I have Panasonic's TH-42PX600U, and I couldn't be happier. Burn-in is not a problem...just turn the damn thing off when you're not using it. Those who believe videogames will ruin plasmas are either ignorant or they're idiots. Even when displaying the same thing for hours, you might see an after-image, and that after-image might even last a day or two, but after that it's gone.

The positives of plasma TV's are just too great to ignore: better contrast, better handling of motion, cheaper cost per square inch, and just plain better picture quality. More LCD models are offered by stores/manufactures - obviously MORE sold than plasma (they're cheaper to produce - duh) - which is why so many LCD ego's will never admit they likely paid more and have an inferior pic compared to plasma owners. So the plasma bashers will always be around.

I have a Sony LCD, great pic, when you're in the perfect view angel and not to close. My Pioneer 4280 plasma (cheaper, I got a GREAT DEAL luckily) blows the Sony away, its no contest. I know the difference, my previous Panasonic plasma was fabulous also. I tell any HD shopper searching to start with plasma 1st (panasonic) - not surprising they always agree that the LCD is inferior.

Tony

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

I wish I could return my 61" Samsung LED DLP and buy the 60" Pioneer Kuro plasma instead...

Big Sam

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

why?

daryl austin

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

What's the latest on PDP's altitude sickness - I am at 6800ft ?

JRINNM

Comments on DisplaySearch forecasts bright future for plasma displays

I've owned a very good quality Sharp Aquos LCD for the past few years, and cannot wait to upgrade to a discounted Panasonic plasma during the after-Thanksgiving sales drive!

I watch movies/concerts almost 100% in a dark-room environment, and no matter how low I set my LCD picture settings, the blacks look so lame [compared to plasma], with "grayish" blacks, and poor color accuracy.

Now that 50" (Panasonic) plasmas have finally become affordable [under $2000 for select 720p and 1080p models], I'm getting anxious to buy my first plasma and move the LCD to the office.

LCDs [with traditional CCFL bulbs] just have no place in a serious "lights out" home theater environment. However, the newer LED-lighted LCDs will probably do quite well, but these are at a premium price right now (until next year when more companies will have LED models).

Joseph R
