The title is very misleading though, should be changed to "Verizon's FIOS TV finally rolls into Pittsburgh". HALF THE BOROUGH CAN'T GET FiOS!!!

Sounds ridiculous right? Wrong. North Pittsburgh Telco has been here for ages and the FCC granted them a monopoly clause (because they are small) so telecoms like Verizon couldn't move into the area and rape them. Well NPTC was just bought out by Consolidated Communications and I still can't get FiOS. Talk about a friggin' con job. I happen to live in the part of Franklin Park that is NPTC's territory. I'm stuck with Comcast. Fuck I hate where I live.

I've been waiting for FiOS for ages and I've been pestering our borough mayor for ages about this. NPTC's DSL Service 3Mbps is slower and costs more...I could go with Direct TV, but then any savings would be wiped out since Comcast will jack up my Internet service to $60.00 month if I don't also have their TV. All of my family and friends who live near me in Franklin Park CAN get FiOS...but I'm left out in the cold.

kmurph

Comments on Verizon's FiOS TV finally rolls into Pittsburgh

Signing up right now (Peters Township).

TK

TK101

Comments on Verizon's FiOS TV finally rolls into Pittsburgh

Just got the order placed:
Phone: Freedom Essentials (unlimited LD, etc.)
Internet: 5Mbit
TV: standard 200 channels, HBO, Showtime, Stars, Flix, Sundance
Set-top equipment: 2 cable cards (HD Tivo), 1 Verizon HD-DVR, 2 standard boxes

Price: 149/month
Savings vs. Comcast: at least $50/month, plus I'm getting more channels (all of my TVs get all the channels, whereas with Comcast I was only pushing the full lot to the HD set, trying to save money). We've had this service for about 9 months and has become worse with time (especially the new guide). For the time being, quality is better with other carriers, and don’t even get me started with customer service. At least 10 calls to Verizon in the past 4 months to clear up ONE seemingly simple issue.

Jason

Comments on Verizon's FiOS TV finally rolls into Pittsburgh

You've described my dilemma perfectly. Going to DirecTV doesn't solve anything because then the rates get jacked up for cable internet. The DSL around here is slower and just as expensive. What I don't understand is why Verizon can't come to this area and just offer internet and FiOS TV access. Comcast does it.

Charles Zuzak

Comments on Verizon's FiOS TV finally rolls into Pittsburgh

Why on earth do we free citizens allow these corporations to have monopolies?
