Because the world has gone far, far too long without a home shopping channel in high definition, Liberty Media announced QVCHD will launch in the first quarter of 2008. They anticipate the crisp quality of HDTV will get viewers calling, and with our addiction to anything broadcast in high res, we can't argue the logic. No word on what carriers will feature the station yet, but with
capacity already an issue for some, we don't see viewers being happy if QVC HD's commission-based sales hit their HDTV package and another channel doesn't.
ha, not a channel i care to have, but okay ...
I don't know if these channels are included in a package at the expense of others, though there may be limited bandwidth in some systems. They are still irritating anyway. I'm not sure if I see the people that own an HDTV care for this kind of thing.
The technical upgrades to the production facilities have already
been done this past August. Anyone who is a regular viewer
would have noticed the much better looking cameras. The studio
cameras were up to 10 years old. Yes, the current output is
down converted to 480i, but the new Ikegami cameras look great
in any resolution.

Why bother? And yeah, I would be upset with my cable or sat provider if they wasted precious bandwidth on this.
Those that are trying hard to offer QVC in HD do not care what the consumers think about this channel. Those providers only care to be able to say they got XYZ number of channels in HD. And then there is a crux when the provider's interpretation of 'HD' is not anyone else's interpretation. But, hey, if no one is watching out for ignorant consumers then who cares if they make outrageous claims.
For instance, I had 200 HD channels, but I consider anything above 320x240 to be my interpretation of HD.
"...but I consider anything above 320x240 to be my interpretation of HD."
Luckily, the rest of the world doesn't share your interpretation.
In general, shopping channels pay to be carried, and reduce the customer's bill. Pretty much like a commercial. Of course, this wasn't an issue when bandwidth was free....
I wonder, though, with Liberty buying DirecTV, whether DirecTV will be getting anything for carrying this rot.
Oh please no. What a waste of bandwidth!
Just because they are making a show in HD it does not mean you will see it. Just watch any of my local OTA DTV broadcast. They all are only providing 480i besides public tv, a full 1080p.
What better reason to get the OLD people that are buying HDTVs thru them to CONTINUE to Buy crap thru them......LMAO!!!!!!!!
Waste of Bandwidth indeed.......
QVC uses Sony HDC1000 HD cameras. The SD output remains digital until the final step of upconversion for transmission. At this point it is converted to analog for C band uplink. This is standard def 480i all the way through, start to finish. Granted, it is the SD out of the CCU being used, but no real down conversion....but what do I know, I'm one of the four people who installed it.
P.s. Keep your eye out for some pretty cool things in the future ; )
Hi Frank:
Personally, I can't wait for QVC to go HD!! Long over due!! Do you have any idea when this might happen?
Thanks,
Pam
