The digital broadcasting changeover continues worldwide, this time it's
India's national broadcaster, Prasar Bharati planning to introduce HDTV by 2010, and go all-digital by 2015. The target event is the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, while other nations focus on readying themselves for the
Olympics or
World Cup. The report indicates the country's information & broadcasting ministry is already behind in phase one of its digitization plans, but hopefully they'll have things ready in the next 1050 days.
Waiting for Hindi movies to come on HD, I am for Blu to win as most of Hindi movies are 21/2 hours and I don't think it will fit very well on HD-DVD.
I do not mean to poke fun at anyone, but I am curious to know how many people in India have an HDTV, and what percentage of their population do they represent.
Why Are U Assuming Indian People Can't Afford HDTV's Do You Really Want Me See How Much Of A Spoilt Brat You Are. Don't Hype To India Just Because It Looks Poor Doesn't Mean It Is. People Have HDTV's But There Ain't HD Channels And I Don't Know Why Your Trying To Hype About India Look At Your Life GhostDoggy. People Have Better Things To Do Then Watch TV All Day, People Have Something Called "Jobs" Every Heard Of One They Work Much Harder Then You To Earn There Money. Jd
HDTvs are only a niche market in india today. obvious reasons are, not enuff content/channels. but the most significant reason is need. there isnt just enough of a need at the moment for people to switch over to HD.
So this move by prasar bharti is a first. hopefully other channels will catch up someday.
I would give it atleast 5-8 years for HDTV to me main stream.

JD chill out. Where in his comment does he say people in India can't afford HDTVs?
He is looking for some stats, of course that number would be low since there is very little content outside HD/Blu DVD players. Your post is way out of line.
What brought that rant on? I've never seen anything like that before unprovocated. I know plenty of Indians here that have an HDTV but I always got the impression that most or at least my friend is more into the computer side of things much like myself rather than TV. I don't even own an HDTV just a rather sharp HD monitor for my PC and prefer the specs on it. I'm not really interested in the tuner or the analog inputs that a card or transcoder can just as easily fix for me whenever I actually need it and not having 10 watt 10% THD speakers built into my monitor that I wouldn't use anyway is more efficient too. I much prefer my Logitechs which may eventually get upgraded to Deftechs. My point while I got a little more off topic there is that I always got the impression that Indians as a culture were more efficient with some things. -Peace.
