The NFL Network wants to be the base tier and have their network priced accordingly to Comcast. But the NFL Network, for the most has lame programming 90% of the time. Only between endless reruns of old(er) games and films and game updates, are there live game broadcasts. That kind of programming lineup shouldn't be in the base tier, but rather an upgrade tier. Now, I like the NFL Network as I have it on Directv, but I would not want to pay for it in the base package of cable if it meant removing another network that fed newer programming around the clock.

Pekingman

Comments on Comcast to NFL Network: stop coaxing customers away... or else

You wouldn't give up one of the 5 shopping channels?

steveo

Comments on Comcast to NFL Network: stop coaxing customers away... or else

The "old" games they show are the best games of the week from sunday...for the people who wern't able to see them do to the region they live in. The NFL Network is not good enough to be on a basic tier, but they see that MLB negotiated that for the launch of the MLB network and now they want the same deal.

Comcast is wrong for BUNDLING the channel with other unwanted sports channels to inflate the price. NFL Network charges $7-$9 per sub per year. If Comcast offered the NFL Network as a standalone upgrade (like HBO or even Playboy) for $1 a month, significantly more people would subscribe (satisfying the NFL) without having it added to the basic level (satisfying Comcast)while providing $3-$5 per sub in return for Comcast. Apparently, Comcast would rather hold the line of charging around $6 per MONTH for the bundle of channels including the NFL.

cb7296

Comments on Comcast to NFL Network: stop coaxing customers away... or else

>

$6 per MONTH ???????
You better check again with Comcast!
I called the day of the Cowboys-Packer's game and got a recording.

They said the NFL network was included in the sports package for the price of 199.00 dollars for six months. In the end, the consumers will pay for all of it whether they get it or not, and whether they watch it or not. Few channels are offered to distribution companies like Comcast et al by themselves, and instead are sold packages.

Until there is a forced condition on behalf of consumers to offer something a la carte then the consumers will pay for everything. For us in the Twin Cities metro area, the "cable" provider of choice is Comcast-ick! I'm not paying $5 more a month to watch a few games a year and never view the other useless Sports stations included in the price. I AGREE that if I could switch I would - it's obscene they did this to me.
