my sister bought a hd-a3 for $199 on black friday at a brick-and-mortar store. she thought it was a great price. i'm pretty sure she had no idea that wal*mart was selling the hd-a2 for $99 three weeks earlier (and really didn't want to mention it).
i bought a hd-a3 with 3 extra movies (for a total of 10) from amazon on tuesday (11/20) for $199, received it on wednesday, and got a price adjustment of approximately $40 on thursday (after e-mailing amazon). i bought st:tos s1 for $106 for deepdiscount on tuesday (11/20), and it shipped on wednesday.
i bought 3 for 2 hd-dvd's on friday from amazon, and got 2 hd-dvd's (with 20% off) from deepdiscount on sunday (last day coupon was good until was 11/25).
hd-a3's sell for under $200 at a number of places online (including "consumer-trusted" places like amazon). i don't know why b&m stores try to sell them for $299 (maybe because best buy can't justify knocking $100 off the $199 price when you buy a hdtv).
people think the hd-a3 is a bargain for under $200. a lot of these are going to sell in the next month before christmas. hd-dvd's (i.e. transformers) will be bought with the hd-a3's, and the recipients are going to be buying hd-dvd's in late december and january.
