PC Rush orders up 10000 HD VMD players: any takers?
If you'll recall, New Medium Enterprises proudly announced that it had landed a tried and true US distributor for its HD VMD player way back in February, and now the firm is letting everyone know that PC Rush will be taking delivery of 10,000 multilayer players. Starting next month, the e-tailer will be offering up the 1080p players online, and it's also noted that the devices will reach unspecified brick and mortar outlets courtesy of Distenex, a sister company of PC Rush. Granted, these very players were previously available to US customers via Amazon, but now it seems that orders are no longer being accepted. We still have no idea who here will actually head out (or hop online) to pick one of these up this holiday season, so we'll start by asking you -- anyone gonna shrug off HD DVD / Blu-ray and hop on the rebel's bandwagon?

"anyone gonna shrug off HD DVD / Blu-ray and hop on the rebel's bandwagon?"
God no. Who would buy this? HD DVD and Blu-ray are already well established.

Ummm..No. No I'm not.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! AAAAAAAAAhhhh HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!

NO WAY MAN!
Ummm, what does it do?
Well, I would think about it if it had every studios support and was coming out with tons of Software for it.
So the question is.... Is there any studio support?
Weren't they supposed to have like 100 titles by the end of the year? I haven't heard anything else about them... But supposedly it has 100GB capacity discs and is reasonably priced.
I doubt it will have any impact on the video market (with no studio support), but could be a viable storage medium for computing..
Although this will have almost no effect on the current "Red vs Blu" format war, it might just find a global market. If you take a look at their website, http://www.nmeinc.com/index.aspx , you will realize that they have access to Hollywood films through Hollywood's numerous global distributors, meaning you can get what you want in the language you want or desire -- Hollywood, Bollywood, and every film market in between.
...Although the discs may all ship from elsewhere like India, China, or South Korea due to legal rights and financial stakes of studios and distributors in the U.S. that have stakes in "Red vs. Blu".
Say, where the hell are all our "favorite" Red and Blu trolls at to bytch about how superior their formats are and how much others suck!?
Yes, I know this format isn't quite argument worthy yet. But why no arguments for "sh*ts and giggles" sake?
OMG HD-DVD is SOOO superior to this load of crap! HD-DVD is so sweet we have Transformers and cheap players that have way more cooler features than blu-ray! p.s. blu-ray sux!
You mean something like that? Or how about:
Pff this POS tech is sooo much lamer than Blu-ray! 50 GB storage rocks and tons of disc sales prove that we've CLEARLY already won the format war (why is HD-DVD still trying, we've declared victory like three times now, didn't they get the memo?) p.s. HD-DVD sux!
I agree with you. Sometimes (most times), fanboys just end up sounding crazy, especially when they start threatening to kill each other.
@ Mike.
Yep, that should work.
That's a sleek looking player.
It looks promising have a look at film list lots of good films at $17.99 including blade trinity and a few disney titles got to remember market in far east is huge and prices will fall very quickly I think players will be in supermarkets for $100 in no time also they upscale to 1080p for normal discs and region free and discs can be produced on normal DVD production lines I also think a DVD Recorder useing this technology would be great for TV programes you want to keep and Home video from camcorders
no way, the last thing we need is a 3rd HD optical disc choice. it would be nice to end the one between blu-ray and HD-DVD.
It's a shame what happened to VMD.
RIP.
I still think this deserves to be used as a gaming console optical drive. Micrsoft should've jumped all over this. Nintendo still could. But, when the library expands, I may get one if HD-DVD is still significantly more expensive. That's if I have money to blow.
What art of nerd or geek has ever made people think we are stupid too? :) Anyone even remember option C between betamax and VHS? didnt think so.
Maybe they are thinking of it like a console thing, where there are often three consoles on the market at the same time. I think that would be a flawed assumption as the game market and video market are quite different, usually alternative formats don't get easily accepted, and there are far more movie titles for a given mainstream movie format than there are game titles for any given game console. I know for sure that I'm not going to pick up a third HD format player, I thought two was a stretch. While I really don't consider the Blu-Ray or HD DVD formats to be established, but those formats have a year's lead over VMD, and VMD's players aren't enough cheaper to justify it.
A world of people with no guts. If our grand dads were like you who say NO WAY every one would be driving Fords. Who wants a Ford? Fix Or Repair Daily!
I believe in giving the next guy a chance so I bought one. If nothing else they say it will play regular DVDs at higher definition. I am for that. I have hundreds of them.
Sony always pulls this crap of proprietary marketing and it did not work when they faced off with VHS and it won't work here. There will be some one that makes a play all device and I hope it is the makers of VMD. Its guys like them that always force the price down and give you more.
I guess the rest of you still use Sony Beta.
I'm totally going for this format. It doesn't matter if it fails I'll still have a decent DVD player which upscales plus some HD-VMDs.
