Are there really just 9 relatively new titles that people are willing to buy? Wow.

Transformers still has legs which is good news. Thats about all the good news for HD-DVD though. Those HD-DVD players might be keeping the ratios from hitting 80/20 or worse, but that's not much in the way of consolation. Hitting the 750k player sales mark is nice but it still pales to the 2m (or is it 2.4m?) ps3's in the US. Even if only 1/2 are used to play blu-rays, that's still 1m+ ps3s, coupled with the 200-300k standalones.

h0mi

Comments on Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 25th, 2007

I think 300 still has legs because its one of those titles that feels necessary to have in high def, Spiderman and Transformers probably also have that appeal as well. In my opinion these movies help provide a good reference point for the state of hi def. The fact that they remain in the top 10 list shows that 'early adopter hi def geeks' still have a lot of control over hi def buying power, but I think the large numbers on family friendly movies on that list also just how much of the general public is jumping into the game.

seanc

Comments on Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 25th, 2007

After Black Friday, its probably 2.5+ million PS3s and 300-350k SA Blu-ray players.

Sy

Comments on Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 25th, 2007

Open Season? The gaming space is a moving target, and the market has shown standardization on gaming platforms is meaningless. The argument then breaks down like this.

Ideally in a dual format world every publisher would publish to both formats.
Retailers will refuse to stock both formats though since they can't afford the room for all movies/tv shows on all formats.
The retailer is forced to stock the format which brings in teh most money for it.

Again this line of reasoning doesn't work for games because the gaming industry has high turnover in stock, people don't collect games the way they collect movies, so retailers only have to allot a small space to each console to sell the latest games.

seanc

Comments on Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 25th, 2007

Nice, your words bring hope to my heart =)

Michal

Comments on Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 25th, 2007

Do you have a link or something?
