Not even three months ago, we got word that Bright House Networks would be adding
eight new HD channels to its lineup, but now that number has skyrocketed with an announcement promising some 50 high-definition channels within the next 18 months. Reportedly, customers will see the first HD additions on February 1, 2008, as six unspecified channels are tossed in. Christian Fenger, president of BHN's Central Florida division, proclaimed that it would "triple" its HD offerings over the next 1.5 years by adding content that was "compelling, entertaining and of interest to its customers," and the firm also noted that the expansion was being made possible because of its "hybrid fiber-coaxial network architecture and long-standing relationships with the programmers."
I'm guessing they're still refusing to carry the NFL Network though . . . Glad I switched to FiOs and get to enjoy NFL HD
I'll believe it when I see it. Those 8 new HD channels announced a few months ago is still missing half, and knowing Bright House they will probably be added into yet another "PAK" so I have to pay them EVEN more!
3 letters for you BrightHouse....N.F.L.!!!
Why would Brighthouse want to carry the NFL network in HD when it only carries games during a few months of the year? Wouldn't it be better to use their limited bandwidth to carry a network that has more appeal than just a few months of the year.
Why should a provider (Brighthouse by way of Time Warner) carry a channel such as NFL Network? Because customers want it. Or in TWs case, this ex-customer.
50 HD channels in the next 18 months... so sometime in 2009 they will be where DirecTV and Dish are now.
Umm... no.. Dish is not there now. Dish is crap. I just left Dish as my secondary provider. Aside from Voom, BHN has just about everything in HD that crappy Dish has. DirecTV, yes, they are leaps and bounds ahead, but you are wrong on Dish and need to be called out on it.
If you live in Pinellas, Polk, Citrus or Hernando, the new HD channels should be available this week. I believe BH is also moving some of the HD programming out of the HD Pak to regular HD lineup.
I believe these six channels are in addition to the 8 we got in Tampa Bay Dec 13th. At least I hope that is the case. I'll take 6 more surprise channels.
Well, BHN forgot to mention or even advise customers using cablecards, the new HD line-up would not be made available and BHN would be removing all the earlier HD channels which were added late 2007 as well. As of today, 2/4 TBS HD and channels 146 (History) & 147 (BIO) have been removed. I did find this article - http://newteevee.com/author/bungad/page/2/
