FiOS launches 75 HD VOD titles, 1000 on slate for '08
Verizon continues to build upon their fiber optic network by rolling out 75 HD VOD titles to the following markets; Richmond, Virginia Beach, Tampa, Fort Wayne, and Pittsburgh; and coming soon to Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and Rhode Island -- everyone else has to wait till sometime next year. There will be a mix of free content and the latest movies (for a fee). FiOS VOD is uniqe in that it is IPTV based, so instead of being delivered via QAM (like the rest of their programming) it shares bandwidth with your Internet connection.

Any word on when it will come to FiOS customers in New Jersey? I recently switched, and the only thing I miss about Comcrap is the HD On Demand feature.
Hmm, I kinda wish fios had some more HD VOD, but then I realized that you can get HD VOD with any provider. It's called bittorrent.
I know what you mean. I'm still waiting for it in the Harrisburg area. FiOS is all over the place here, but no FiOS TV thanks to the bought-and-paid-for-by-Philadelphia-based-Comcast. >:( I'm supposedly going to have access to FiOS TV in the spring.
It's about time.
Man I wish that I could get Fios in Washington State. I would drop Crapcast in a hot second. The just raised the rates again this month. Cable and Internet is up to 131.19 aq month.
we will be adding video in washington this summer but to areas that are currently serviced by Verizon.
What do you mean it shares bandwidth with my internet connection? Will my internet actually be slower when I am watching HD On-Demand??
There are many factors, but it is possible for your Internet connection to be affected by VOD.

Is the new guide / menu system supposed to be life nation wide? I keep seeing the pictures here and elsewhere but haven't seen it here in SE PA yet...
This is totally incorrect. Verizon does not use "IPTV". They use Motorola SEMS. This is a QAM device.
They dont use standard RF to the QAM only fiber.
FiOS VOD is IPTV (MoCA to be precise), but the rest of the channels are QAM. They use a QAM RF overlay.

When they were installing my FiOS they explained the whole VOD and IPTV thing. I have the 30Mbs up and 5Mbs down, which was the fastest at the time. The technician stated that the VOD uses the internet connection, but the speed of the connection increases while your streaming to 30/5 even if that's not your package. Now that they offer higher packages, I'm curious if it increases even further. I also wondered if you could get the speed of a 30/5 from their lower packages by always playing streaming video. By the way, FiOS is awesome.
I was told the total bandwidth to the outside wall box was 100meg, so I expect it uses that so it doens't bite into whatever you're paying for...
