AT&T brings U-verse to St. Louis, Missouri area

Those parked in the St. Louis, Missouri area searching for an alternative television (and internet, too) source can officially call the party on, as AT&T has announced that your neck of the woods is the next in line to get blessed with U-Verse. Consumers in St. Louis, Ballwin, Bridgeton, Chesterfield, Clayton, Creve Coeur, Florissant, Kirkwood, Maryland Heights, Mehlville, Oakville, Olivette, Sappington, Shrewsbury, St. Charles, St. Peters, University City and Webster Groves can phone up AT&T for service right now, and while specifics for further expansion weren't divulged, the operator did note that it would "continue to increase U-verse availability throughout the area on an ongoing basis." So, who here will be switching over? Staying put? Let's hear it.[Via TVOver]

I'm in StL and have Charter for internet - 10mb, waiting for 16mb to launch
DTV for TV - you can't beat the number of HD channels DTV has, plus the HR20 is excellent
and Vonage for phone - I'm not paying any more than $25/month for phone service.
So considering that U-Verse doesn't beat any of these three departments, I see no compelling reason to even give it a look.
Awesome! Congrats, St. Louis! Meanwhile, back in Texas, I still can't get U-verse even though my neighbors can. Why? Because AT&T didn't run enough fiber to cover all the buildings in my area, and they say they might never fix it! Yay!
Why must they always hate on the dark side? I live 15 miles from downtown, but on the IL side (which is half as far from downtown as these communities). They won't even offer me DSL. I'm stuck with ole reliable, Charter Communications, home of the always on for 2 hours a week, blocked torrents service.

I talked with a U-Verse rep in Cleveland that said th eservice was up in some areas. I tried phone numbers of 10 people around Cleveland and all of them came up with "service not available". Right by my apartment AT&T already has all of thier new fiber switchboxes already up, and they've been up for nearly a year, yet still no U-Verse service.
I'm beginning to think the service is just vaporware to look good on paper while they sell th eincreased bandwidth to big companies for corporate internet.
The service looks promising. 200 channels you can pick with 3 free recievers and a DVR plus 2mb down 1 up DSL for $59 a month. Sure beats the base package of digital cable/internet for $115 a month. Digital Cable is a huge waste of money since you have to pay for hundreds of crappy channels you will never watch.
I just wish that the 50 Channel U-verse option was actually cost effective. Once you pay the box rental fees and other hidden charges it only ends up being $5 less than the 200 channel package. I really only watch 10-12 channels and wish I could just pay for those. Since U-Verse is a IP service where it only broadcasts the channel you are watching you should only pay for channels you actually watch.
Just signed up for an installation on the 3rd (they're beginning installation on the 2nd). Anything is better than Charter.
I just signed up in St. Louis. Talk about an amazing deal... 200+ channels with all the channels I wanted - unlike satellite and local cable services which, for the channels I wanted, I would have had to sign up for the extreme packages. 45 digital music channels in my area. Free wireless router (wireless G). Free year of HD service ($10/month). PLUS a $50 Visa Check card just for signing up with no contract. 3 boxes with 1 DVR. All for only $74 per month with no equipment or installation fees? You can't beat that anywhere. I tried to get Charter to come even close to that offer or they would lose my business. They couldn't do it, so I officially signed up with AT&T today. Customer service was extremely nice and helpful - I must say, I was pleasantly surprised given AT&T's history of Customer No-Service (phrase coined by Clark Howard).
Plus access to AT&T WiFi hotspots? I mean wow. You can't beat that. I'm also kind of excited to try out the ability to program your DVR from the U-Verse website (so I can do it from work!).
I am really excited and I hope the service lives up to my expectations.
Anyone wanting U-verse can contact me. I can tell you the availability and or aproximate availability dates for your area or address. I sell all AT&T products Dish And DirectTV. I wouldn't sell or recommend Charter anything to anyone. They are horrible at best.
