Comcast delivering Yule Log via HD VOD
We can't say the famed Yule Log would've been our first choice for HD content on-demand, but hey, we'll take it. After INHD enabled users to light up their HDTVs for a solid 24 hours last year, those with Comcast can enjoy a newly filmed version (shot in 1080i) anytime they'd like through January 4, 2008. Additionally, the HD VOD version will offer up true Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, so you can experience true-to-life cracklin' without smoking up your abode in the process. Oh, and just in case you were wondering -- Comcast noted that folks checked out the HD VOD version of its Yule Log broadcast "more than twice the number of times" as the SD version when aired last year.[Via Huntington News]

I suspect the 5.1 audio is for holiday music, with the crackling log only occupying the center channel.
Oh, fine! Ruin a bad joke even further! Thanks a heap! :)
man I seen this the other day, I've got Time Warner.....
at first I was like WTF!?!?
but it is a safe way to have a look at a fire with AND have Christmas music going with crackling sounds in the background......
but really tho....I can find much better things to watch on TV.......like SD channels........
Wonderful - Comcast gives us crap like this, but still not (at least, not in my area) PPV events (like the UFC) in HD. Sigh...
This doesn't seem to be available in San Francisco. I contacted Comcast, and they thought I was nuts (What do you mean you want to watch a fireplace?!) but they confirmed it wasn't available here. They said they'd put in a request to make it available, so who knows. But, if they don't have it near you, I'd recommend giving them a call.
This has been available via HD on Demand on Brighthouse for several days.
I got a kick out of this story and had to see if we had it and sure enough, Dayton/Cincinnati, Ohio has this on HD Showcase Free On Demand (Ch: 1199)... There is music in the background if anyone wanted to know.
Time Warner Cable that is...
