CE-Oh no he didn't! Part LIV: Stringer on flip-flop bender
Man, talk about being all over the map. One day Sony's Howard Stringer is calling the format war a "stalemate," the next he's claiming Blu-ray is "just a better format." Apparently, having a few weeks to think over that last comment made him realize that his heart was more connected to the first proclamation, as the exec has now come forward and acknowledged that the battle between red and Blu is far from over. Specifically, he stated that "[Blu-ray] had momentum," but he followed up by calling the aforementioned momentum "all it had at the moment." C'mon Mr. Stringer -- pick a line and hold steady, will ya?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

This bloke should have been on the Muppet Show..... come to think of it , i think he was, wasn't he one of the 2 bumbling old farts who used to make public gaffs all the time??
Can we start a petition to get this joker fired? He belongs at Toshiba, not Sony. No wonder blu-ray hasn't completely whalloped HD DVD yet. Without this indecisive moron, we'd all be enjoying a single format right now. That's right, blu-ray.
Hey h4, I see BR is getting a caning on Amazon @ the moment as well, it's just not your day buddy!
Average ranking for the Top 100 Movies has HD DVD @ position 651, and BR @ 1759, and the top 3 DVD players are all Toshiba HD DVDs, interestingly with the 1080p 30A in first place.
I guess it's our turn for once, hell, we might just win a week, wouldn't that just finish your week off!
Ah yes, Blu-ray continues to devour its most promising children...
Without Howard Stringer, you wouldn't have your precious format. Perhaps you should listen to someone who really knows what's happening, and who may see the writing on the wall.
read the whole interview your ideots come on engadgethd post the intier interview lol wait don`t wanan piss off the fan boys do u
yes, a few bits conveniently left out, did I read something about Sony maybe dropping blu ray from the PS3?
conveniently missing out that there's a buy-one-get-one-free. You must work for engadget. :)
Don't be dumb - Many PS3 games (maybe all? I'm not sure) are on Blu-ray discs. If you drop Blu-ray from the PS3, it won't be able to play all the games.
Quit lowering yourself to the level of the Blu-ray.com FUD spreaders.
posting the whole interview/article each time would make the main page very long, and take credit away from the sources.
Thats what LINKS are for!
If Stringer (head Blu-ray BS'er) is prepared to hint things aren't going well for Blu-ray then you can bet it's a lot worse than that in reality.
He knows some stuff the fanbay section don't.
Things are getting better and better for HD DVD.
(which is not too bad for a supposedly "dead" format. LMAO)
All his comments are probably valid, since the state of the "Format War" is a moving target.
Stringer is a CEO who has done great things for Sony. Blu-ray is probably a lower priority than other things for him.
"We have momentum," he said. "But that's all we have at the moment." Stringer responds about Blu-Ray.
I own the PS3 and support Blu-Ray. But, think that those are very disappointing words to hear from the Sony CEO. It casts doubts in my mind about the future of Blu-Ray and how much faith Sony has on it.
Powerful words Bobby.

This is probably the stupidest article I have seen posted here.
So someone says that a "war" is a stalemate. HOW does that mean one is NOT better then the other?
I could say the war in Iraq is a stalemate BUT our troops are better then the insurgents. One has zero to do with the other. TWO different things.
Flip-Flop? Wrong words. Get writers that can read articles and post correct comments.
Typical for a "pro"-HD-DVD site to misconstrue the meaning of words.
HD-DVD has not won a week in nearly a year...and it will stay that way for a LONG time. Amazon numbers mean nothing...been proven over and over so don't use them as a sign of where things are going.
My favorite is HD-DVD claming a victory when they get 42% of the sales. That would be like the Colts claiming victory over the Patriots because they scored a touchdown once but still lost the game. Does not matter how close it is...a win is a win.
@HD4ME
Another good article from tvpredictions.com

@ D@n
So Swanni repeating the blu rumour that eminated from bluray.con is more relevant and credible then Warner denying it?
Sounds like someones blu dream.

@bolaar
yea this is a pro-hd dvd site, if you compare it to blu-ray.com
I like it because it has fans of one, the other, and both.
General question for any one who knows:
Say the two sides work something out next year to settle on one format, called "HD-DVD of the Blu Variety" or something. For those of use who have already bought one or the other be able to watch both via a simple firmware update, or will we have to buy a new, single-format player that the two sides agreed upon? Point being, I have an HD-DVD player. If they two sides meet, agree on something that is more "Blu," will I ever be able to watch current BluRay movies on my machine, or will I still need to buy a future, agreed-upon single format player.
Thanks!
@TrentD
Hey Fool, they aren't my words, it's your precious leader Stringer who mentioned the possibility of BR being dropped from the PS3, typical blu troll knee jerk reaction, so GFY idiot.
Read about it yourself.

WHY do you insist on continuing to "quote" Howard Stringer in these articles? The last time you ran a paragraph containing a few lines of his speech, it was all completely out of context and the meaning of what he said was totally changed to fit your agenda. By continuing to quote people out of context, you lead people to believe things that aren't true and you damage any credibility you have as a source for information about the high def formats. Why don't you just change your site's name to HD-DVDGadget and drop all Blu-Ray coverage altogether? You're only fanning the flames of an unnecessary format war which has reduced what I assume to be fairly intelligent adults into blithering 8-year-olds fighting a school yard battle - "na na na, my format's better than yours." Grow up! Can't we all just get along?!?!
