I've been pretty satisfied with U-verse for the last month and a half here in Michigan. The HD picture suffers from a little compression noise, but the colors are vibrant. What bugs me the most is that my audio cuts out frequently - although I had similar problems with Comcast.
Since I got the system in late October, the one-HD-stream-at-a-time limitation has only been an issue once. Of course, the more HD channels they roll out, the greater the chances that I'd want to record one HD program while watching another.
But it's still a better DVR then Comcast, as well as a better price, better HD selection (HDNet FTW) and comparable Internet speeds (if you spring for the 6mbps).
