So how long until someone hijacks this thread as they did the OOTP thread, claiming that these faulty discs are a clear sign that blu-ray is finished, an inferior platform, etc.? (Starts stopwatch)

This wasn't a failure of the format, it's a failure of whoever did the transfer/framing.
I've heard it was with the first one, not the second. The link below is the AVS Forum, it shows a few examples of the framing issues for those interested. On a side note, I'm very pleased that Disney is willing to replace the defective copies. Excellent Customer Service move on their part.

I don't know which Pirates was bad but kudos to Disney for fixing it.

FYI,
After you call them they tell you that you need to send an email with following information to disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com
Name, Phone Number, Full Address, and Disk UPC.
You can call the number but this is the automated message that comes up first.
Good for them, too bad it took so long after the first initial reports.
Anyone remember just how bad some DVD releases were in the early years. Non-anamorphic and just some pure crap transfers. The original Tombstone comes to mind since I liked the movie and watched it a lot. It looked alright on my 27" non-HD set, but once I got my 55" HD set, I couldn't watch it anymore. That 55" set made a lot of my DVDs unwatchable, I welcome HDM with open arms due to that.
The american persident widescreen DVD has a 25" diagonal on my 50" pdp. It's letterboxed AND pillarboxed. pure crap.
I am pretty sure that engineers in both camps want your failed disc, along with a system description and a description of the failure. Both HD and Blu are wildly evolving systems, and you can only test so much before it hits the "field."
While reports on message boards can help, there is nothing like a documented example with the media involved.
This wasn't a failure of the format, just a careless transfer that wasn't framed correctly.
The discs worked perfectly while playing the movie, people's heads were just cut off in some scenes.

I sent in my email for disc replacement. Anyone have an ETA on when I get my corrected version?
What's the UPC? Is it the isbn over the top of the barcode on my disc? Also, I take it this scheme is open to those like me who live abroad (in the UK for me) who bought from Amazon.com and had it shipped out?
Seems like Blu-Ray and HD DVD are having some QA problems with recent titles.
This is a totally different problem than the other problems.
This is an authoring problem which means the fault is in house at disney. They should have done better. That's just lazy.
The other problems were with replication facilities that are generally contract producers. They improperly assembled the box sets (hddvd in bluray) and had bad clean room/press room habits that allowed blu ray discs and HDDVD's to become corrupted and/or have layering issues. They probably didn't realize there was a problem until consumers got the discs in hand with respect to the layer/dirt/dust problem.
Wonder how long before we start to see all kinds of POTC Blu Ray disks on Ebay, people trying to make a buck on people who don't know about the framing issue..
You dont get any new packaging I hear so people wont buy them used most likely.
Darnit! My replacement Bourne Ultimatum HD DVD from Amazon still crashes just before the movie starts. Does anyone else have a problem playing Bourne on A30 and your Bourne is from Amazon.com? Balls of Fury did not have a problem at all and they're both from Universal Studios.
Anyway, I hope the new Pirates work with the people who were having problems.
