Everyone knows I am pro HD DVD, but I don't understand these drives at all. Not because there is anything wrong with the drive itself, it's just there is plenty wrong with the 360. I purchased a 360 last Saturday, with the intention to add this HD drive when they are a little cheaper, $99 for me was the magic number. However, i returned the 360 for a full refund last Monday. How anyone can have that thing in their lounge room is beyond me, it sounded like the vacuum cleaner was on at full blast. The 360 was so loud during game play that you all most had to shout over the top of it. How you could watch a movie with that chainsaw going in the background is beyond me, even the fans were unacceptably loud.
I eventually put the 360 inside a solid timber TV cabinet to try to muffle the noise, but it was still unacceptably loud and the heat when i opened the doors all most knocked me over. Sorry, I support HD DVD, but the 360 is dreadfully poor quality and M$ need to address it yesterday. It's a shame, the 360 is a dreadful piece of hardware with brilliant software, and the PS3 is a brilliant piece of hardware with dreadful software. I replaced the 360 with a wii and the family couldn't be happier, even i am staggered how good that little thing is.
You are kidding, right? The fan is a little loud. I hooked the Nyko intercooler to the back and it just adds to the noise. But I've never had to shout or felt like I had to shout. Once a game, movie, or tv program starts I can't hear the thing anymore. I hooked the 360-HD drive to my Vista machine and love it. I plan to slip a Blu-Ray drive into my empty bay below my DVD burner. I only did this because I still have the 360 on a standard def tv and wanted to watch HD-DVD on the LCD. I totally disagree with your decsription of the fan noise tho. Q.
“While it's not exactly punching it out with the heavyweights in multi-room audio, the Mint Studio does certainly hold its own with many similarly-priced iPod docks out there.”
