In an interview, Digital Playground founder Joone stated that his studio plans to stop releasing on the HD DVD format by the end of 2008. The past few weeks have seen a total 180-degree turn in format stance for the company. After initially coming out in favor of HD DVD, it
moved to a neutral stance at the end of December, and now has moved firmly into the blu camp. In December, the studio stated it was waiting for a "clear cut winner." Apparently in those few intervening weeks, Warner's move and better sales of the studio's titles in Blu-ray format have been enough to make the choice clear. Sex sells, but apparently better in blu.
follow the money
Yet agian, what benfit do you get from a disk that you don't get from just Downloading...
Zomg, I got 7.1 DTS Master Sound on my porno and PiP? >;>
Oh the joy, there's a "how the scene was created" feature...

@ Dave
I am unfamiliar with that studio. Are they part of the adult entertainment industry as well?
Funny how 2 stories ago was about porn industry deciding format war. Now Digital Playground drops HD DVD. Interesting
Well at least next format war all the conventional wisdom about format wars will be thrown out the window... That porn decides the wars, that Sony can't be involved in a winning format, and that a cheaper but technologically slightly inferior format will usually win.
I'm kind of tempted to buy an HD porno... I'm curious, I have to say :p
"Blu" Movie
Thankyou I'll be here all week!
This really is no surprise, it is only a matter of time before all the dominoes fall and HD-DVD becomes a distant memory.
damn nfinity, truth teller. where are you guys to school us on this one? whats that? ps3 owners dont buy that many movies to make a difference? oh no wait i get it. Digital playground was also payed to go blu. yes that must be it. they got paaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyed...
Wow. Talk about sore winners...
no im not a sore winner or anything but just saying, the things that some people say when things dont go their way. like if porn dont want us we dont need them cuz we can download. but im just saying what are hd dvd lovers gonna do to spin this on their favor. i dont have neither so i dont care but its absurd the way people pick sides on this 'war' (skirmish).
Okay, fine, but how are statements like yours any less puerile than "Nyah, nyah, nyah! My daddy beat up your daddy! You don't have no ice cream! You didn't get none!"
...because i wasnt defending blu ray its just that when ever they have news that support blu ray or whatever here they all come running saying yeah the ps3 is a nonfactor, yeah but this, yeah but only because of that, yeah because whatever. what i meant wasnt sarcasm, just wondered what reason were they gonna say to justify this one.
You mean, you actually CARE to know?? You need help. :)
why i need help? look man whatevr just leave me alone. lets just see what nfinity and truth teller got to say about this one. thats all i wrotte in the first place.
Adolescent single males & mostly single male twenty-somethings and single male thirty somethings the bulk of the PS3 owning 'demographic.
Yeah single male PS3 owning porno users - not exactly a difficult 'market' to see being exploited at some point.
Big deal.
S'funny, not that long ago when the US porno industry pretty much all said no to Blu-ray the Blu-ray fans were all here telling us all how
'it didn't really matter & that everyone interested nowadays can d/l'.
K.
It doesn't really matter & everyone interested can d/l.
But seeing how most PS3 users don't use the device for anything but gaming (the old HD DVD arguement) it seems your point is mute.
Truth Teller, for once, I agree with you. However, you're still wrong about everything else :-|
What does it say of me that I read the title as Digital Underground and clicked, then was disappointed when it was Digital Playground?
it says you made a mistake and was hoping for something else :P
Blu Ray adopters (and most sane people) still think that Porn is a non factor for a video format at this point with the internet, but you HD DVD fanboys were all over the place telling us how Porn would decide the format war like it did the VHS / Betamax one (which is a myth btw).
Now you tell us it doesn't matter.
How funny :)
Well if ythat was aimed at me & you're going to try and say I have said that previously then fine, back that up.
Show where I have ever said porn is such a great big deal this time around 1stGreg.
I haven't. You're wrong.
Sure, bought porn is still millions of $ p.a., but it's hardly pivotal to anything this time around.
@ Anthony
The correct word is 'moot', actually.
(Mute is something or one that is silent, that can make no sound or cannot speak.
Jeez what are they teaching you kids these days?!)
But you're right (as the attachments rates clearly show); a very significant number of PS3s are obviously not used for watching movies.
TruthTeller.
Just a honest mistake. Like the kind you made when you kept saying Warner was going HD DVD exclusive. As I'm sure that they're not teaching lies these days....
Wow, nice to see that the Blu-Ray fanboys aren't being assholes about this...
according to a Digital Playground spokesperson, this article is not accurate:
“We are currently producing both HD DVD and Blu-ray. HD DVD is still a viable market for us and we’re selling a lot of units. There are over a million players out there, so it may be perceived as ‘dead’ in the long term, but on an immediate basis, it’s still a viable market. We will continue to grow our Blu-ray business as well, and for us, it’s going to be a smooth transition if we have to go from one to the other. For the time being, we will continue to release our movies on HD DVD. We have a good, solid customer (HD DVD) base that is buying a healthy quantity, so until that number starts coming down, we will continue supporting it.”
