The Panny cannot play any HD DVD disc, and never will. So, as a dual-format machine it's not even in the running.
Dual-format machines are for people who have large HD DVD collections (or want to buy cheap HD movies), want to also have blu-ray (now that the war is over), and do NOT want 2 players for any of several reasons (e.g. type of inputs, lack of inputs, simplicity for household members).

I waited and waited until a good 1.1 player came out... The Panny BD30... awesome machine.
except the panny's poor scaling and deinterlacing.
in fact... every player but the ps3 and xa2 seem to have those problems... and poor HQV results.
There is no perfect player yet... sad.
I agree with locke6854...it's just that every player so far has a glitch somewhere.
