The 80GB sku of the PS3 is being discontinued because Sony is releasing another updated version (likely with a larger hard drive). PS3 sales have been through the roof for 3 months now and the console sold around the same number of units its first year than the 360 did in it's first year.

Stop talking about things you know nothing about. Software sales are mostly disappointing, many titles taking a year before selling a million copies in the US.

The 80GB being replaced by another model that may have a bigger hard drive is speculation at this point. There has been no official announcement as such. It seems odd to offer a unit with a bigger hard drive when the hard drive in the PS3 is user upgradable. It's even detailed in the owner's manual. Actually the 80GB being discountinued is because it's costing Sony more to produce and they're taking a loss on each unit sold. Any eventual replacement models will have less costly components.

And to compare worldwide sales of the PS3 with the Xbox 360 is kinda stupid. Sony sold over one hundred million PS2s, while the original Xbox sold 30 million units. The PS3 should be killing the 360 and it's not. The 360 has outsold the PS3 in the US three times over.

hey alex
