AT&T brings U-verse to Northeastern Illinois: largest launch market to date
No sooner than Southern Illinois gets gifted with a handful of new HD channels on Mediacom, the opposite side of the state now has access to U-verse. You heard right -- Northeastern Illinois has just been dubbed AT&T's largest U-verse market launch to date, giving more than 175 communities the ability to acquire its fiber-based services. More specifically, residents in Bellwood, Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Dolton, Elmhurst, Harvey, Hoffman Estates, Melrose Park, Oak Lawn, Orland Park, River Grove, St. Charles and Waukegan (among many, many more) can all phone up AT&T and get U-verse headed to their abodes. And yes, Big Ten Network is indeed included in the lineup, so you can let loose that pending sigh of relief.

at&t uverse fucking sucks. you cant watch more then one HD Channel at any time in the entire house. meaning no watch one while you record another. no watch one in the living room and one in the bedroom. plus their HD PQ is below average.
why even report on them?
Well, if HD movie downloads roll out as fast as this (substandard) service, Blu-ray has nothing to fear.
And I second the rant about the impossibly low bandwidth. One HD channel per house is beyond belief. Morons in suits.
Clue: F I B E R. To the door. But no, their beancounters expect to reuse that installed base of copper for another 20 years. Maybe it will change after Verizon buys them and fires everyone.
I think they launched in Atlanta, too. Some 200 beta households. I am also of the belief that every one of them, though, are employees' homes. Maybe the telephone company formerly known as AT&T can catch up around 2010.
i'm excited for this! not due to the HDTV portion, i love my DirecTV and am not leaving them anytime soon, but i'm excited that i might actually be able to upgrade my High Speed past the crappy 1.5Mbps i have now! yay for Uverse
Alright, well now i'm not excited anymore.
FYI- if you want to get High Speed internet through ATT U-Verse, you MUST sign up for their TV services as well, and be forced to only watch one HD channel at a time.
Just to let everyone know there is NO cable company that can
GUARANTEE more than one HD stream into your home at a time.
Therefore, despite what many of you think you are only watching ONE
PROGRAM in HD at a time. You are only getting one stream of HD. Even
if the channel says HD and you are getting a quality signal I highly
doubt it's HD 720 and especially not 1080. Test the theory and prove
me wrong. It doesn't matter which service you have. My U-verse
picture clarity is great anyway and most people only have one HD tv
in their home. Plus, do the kids really need to watch Spongebob in
HD?.....
