Verizon grabs one million FiOS TV subscribers
Just months after Verizon celebrated two years of FiOS, and merely four days after celebrating the same for New York, the firm has found yet another reason to boogie down. After a "banner 2007" and a presumably successful January 2008, the outfit has finally netted its one millionth FiOS TV subscriber. The milestone makes it the tenth largest cable provider in the United States, and considering that Mediacom is holding down the nine spot with 1.3 million, we'd say VZW is well on its way into single digits on the leaderboard. Meanwhile, that other fiber-based television carrier is aiming to hit the same mark before 2008 draws to a close.

I wish they would come to my area so I could make it 1,000,001 subscribers.
AMEN! 1,000,002
Its available in New York, but not my area of New York, oddly the guy that installed my FiOS told me FiOS TV was available right across the street, but when I call in they tell me its not.
Did that guy win anything or get a trophy or anything?
It could be right across the street. We had a problem where I called months(!) earlier and they said we didn't have it. Then, finally I figured out a neighbor already had it installed before. Called up and they said we still couldn't get it so told them the neighbor has it and they had an installer come out and check and sure enough it was. Every company has problems yet the thing with Verizon is if you have particular problems its insane. They might not even be able to solve it unless you cancel the service for a week or two. It can be that bad. If its all good however, then the FIOS/TV is great stuff. I still recommend it.
You can find out by looking up the address(s) of others on your street via the FIOS/TV availability look-up service on their web site. It might not show your address but it might show another farther down the street. If it lists anything else on your street or even especially anything at the corners its highly probable you have it. That's what I did to find out. We had also heard a neighbor had it for a while too which helped. With the Verizon trucks on the street too for a week or two - and still not showing up in their system after no matter how much time is just plain wrong.
It is great to see they are catching on quickly.
Fios service has so-far been outstanding in howard county, MD. I havent had to call about anything, because it is all so good compared to comcast. Comcast has tons more on-demand for tv, than fios, but if you have the fios movie package(HD DVR + movie pkg = $20 deal), you get a lot of on-demand with fios. fios has no HD ondemand, but there are like 10 additional HD channels with FIOS. Comcasts set top boxes (STBs) suck. They are very very slow and limited. FIOSs are much faster, responsive, better.
Also, the internet speeds of fios kick comcasts BUTT. 8MB down / 1.5 MB up.
I would be so up on it if it were here. Stupid south....
worst customer service ever. made it a joy to talk to a comcast rep.
After having to call Comcast to get us out of a pretty insane pinch with the FIOS service and Verizon's computers I also agree. Yet Comcast didn't give the price they said so its all relative in the end really. Both companies are stupid.
Please, take a look at this: http://www.spymac.com/details/?2333115
My municipality has had FiOS for a few months now and I still cannot get it because of the FCC.
Stopped in a Verizon store in Tampa to inquire about HD offerings as I know FIOS TV is available (I have FIOS internet--superfast!!)at my home and was advised by a rep they are out of HD DVR receivers, 4 month minimum backlog, are offering standard boxes and 4 months worth of credit on account. Way to go Verizon--trying to grow your customer base and have no supply of HD DVRs. Pretty much locked up my decision to upgrade my current DirecTV receivers/dish/service.
