DirecTV has been on somewhat of a tear lately, bringing HD locals to both
Knoxville, Tennessee and
Tyler-Longview, Texas, and it seems as if Waterloo-area residents may be next in line. According to numerous e-mails with varying DirecTV CSRs, Waterloo / Cedar Rapids, Iowa is all but set to receive its locals in HD via the satellite provider. We've heard both "early February" and "February 8th," so whatever the case ends up being, we're keeping our fingers crossed that FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS finally get the high-def treatment they deserve for those Iowans real soon.
[Thanks, Rod]
Waterloo, IA!!!! WTF 700,000+ in El Paso TX and no love here? No 3G here either (except the VZW, but I'm a GSM fanboy, so they don't count).

I can't really "upgrade" to the new dish/receiver until they put the CW network in HD via the dish.... Until then, I keep using my OTA... (I can't diplex the OTA signal from the roof because I only have 4 cables and that's not supported with the new dish/MPEG-4)
Oh my god. I wasn't expecting to see Iowa in a HD locals DTV headline for quite some time. This is great!!
I'm afraid I'm still going to be let down though. Does anybody know how this works? I live in IA, but I get the Des Moines locals, not Waterloo/CF. Does this mean I'm still screwed?
Why oh why couldn't that have said Dish instead of DirectTV. The nice thing about Iowa is that half of the state is covered by the Waterloo locals, unlike more, uh, populated areas. And with all the rural areas, satellite is the only option for a lot of people.
