30 second skip discovered on Comcast TiVos
If you love TiVo, then there is no substitute, but at $300 many find HD TiVos too rich for their blood, when compared to the price of their provider's DVR. The Comcast TiVo offers a good compromise of price and experience, but there are some key TiVo features missing. Well it appears now that at least one of the most useful features of a stand-alone TiVo is now available for the Comcast TiVo: 30 second skip. So instead of hitting; select, play, 3, 0, select like you do on a stand-alone, you hit; Rewind, Slow, Fast Forward, Play, 3, 0, Advance and you now have a 30 second skip button.[Via TVSquad.com]

Wouldn't it take 30 seconds to push all of those buttons?
Pushing those buttons - no. They left out the part where you have to stand on your head with your left eye closed and only one shoe on while you point the remote at the mirror which reflects it back at the box and do all that. And then it only works on leap years.
Universal remotes with macro playback capability, FTW!
Actually, once I read the source document I realized you only have to enter this sequence once to "unlock" the function:
"All you have to do is hit the following keys:
1. Rewind
2. Slow
3. Fast Forward
4. Play
5. 3
6. 0
7. Advance
Now the button with the right arrow under the fast forward button will advance 30 seconds whether you're watching live, recorded, or on-demand programs."
Score!
I can't live without the 30 second skip button on my TiVo. Best hidden feature ever.
Who needs Comcast TiVo. There's been a hack for this online for years:
Press and hold the “Setup” button until the “Cable” button blinks twice.
Type in the code 994. The “Cable” button will blink twice.
Press (do not hold) the “Setup” button.
Type in the code 00173.
Press whatever button you want to map the 30-second skip command to.
Wouldn't it just be faster to FF at high speed then hit all 15 buttons to just advance 30 seconds?
