these will never replace traditional discs in America until the nation's broadband infrastructure gets upgraded. most homes have 1mbps-3mbps download speeds and ive seen a demonstration of vudu one a broadband line which i presume was anywhere from 1-3mbps and it did not look great at all. id compare it to DVD quality upscaled which to some (like me) are almost unwatchable
while I do not disagree with the conclusion that infrastructure has to build out, for those of us who have high-speed connections Vudu HD instant downloads are great.
I have TWC cable modem w/4820kps dl speed (or more) - easily enough to watch HD instantly.
NOW, the real problem will come when TWC starts charging me bandwidth following their test in Texas.
