I don't think money and storage is a huge issue for people who buy these systems, as the price you quoted is already pretty absurd (although Kaleidescape is pretty kick ass).
I think this would be great if true. In the three houses I've been in that had Kaleidescape, every single TV that was hooked up to it was HD.
Thinking about it now, I wonder if they'd have to recable all of their houses to take advantage of this. Ouch!
