Comcast readies new batch of HD channels for Reston, Virginia
Considering just how many locales in the Southeast have been hit up with new HD additions from Comcast of late, you may get the impression that doing so was its job. Nevertheless, we're quite pleased to hear that one particular subscriber parked in Reston, Virginia just received an FYI card from the cable provider stating that a new round of high-definition channels would be landing on March 4th. Granted, we'd heard whispers that Discovery HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD, USA HD, Food Network HD, HGTV HD, CNN HD, History HD and SciFi HD would actually hit Reston late last month, but we suppose a month (and change) late is better than never. So, who else is receiving these cards, and more importantly, where in the wide world are you?[Thanks, Silvio]

Funny you should mention...I've been receiving these, and a couple more (NFL HD among them) since late November/early December here in Northern NJ. I called Comcast 2 weeks ago because I was having a problem receiving a couple of those channels after picking up a Tivo 3 and when I told the rep what channels were now missing from my lineup, he explained "it's because they don't exist." Ummmmm...yes...they do. I had been watching them for at least 6 weeks at the time, but no one there had any documentation that they were ever rolled out in this area. So I'm happy (relatively speaking).
I am in the former Time Warner Cable area of Houston, Texas and I have had most of those channels you are reporting since October now. I have now been told by a reliable source that works at Comcast, that there are about 26 more HD Channels coming to Houston within the month. They are finishing the touches of installing SDV (Switched Digital Video) as we speak from what I have been told. I have not seen the new offerings though for HD VOD as of yet. Comcast is still in transition from Time Warner Cable here, but when finished in early summer we are being told to be ready for full digital system here. Let me know if anyone else has receiver word if the Tivo Launch has stopped all together at this point as they only offer this feature in a few cities at this time.
Thanks
Haven't heard that and we've had 2 technicians come out in the last few weeks. Leaving this morning I saw 4 Comcast trucks at the gas station across from my neighborhood. They guy said they've been having lots of problems.
Hopefully they would get rid of the piece of shit HD DVRs from Scientific Atlanta they pulled out of 1980 they guide is the worst I've ever seen and none of them would record HD right for me.
I live in Leesburg, VA about 30 mins from Reston and I've been receiving these channels since at least last fall if not summer.
I live in Leesburg, Virginia - just about 25 miles away from Reston and we've been receiving those channels for a couple of months now.
I live in DC -- and we've had a number of those channels for a while -- and had SciFi HD, along with USA HD and a few others added in early January. The slew of new channels just appeared on their online channel lineup a few weeks before they were rolled out, and we didn't get any official notification that they were going to be added. Just happened.
I forgot Reston was one of the few areas in that area of VA that has Comcast. I remember when Media General/Cox's contract was up and everybody thought there would be competition and choices for cable. Although people in DC and Maryland hated Comcast, I remember dreaming of Comcast. I'm in an area that was Adelphia and is now Comcast. The service has been horrible. For the past three weeks I've had all sorts of problems where the picture and sound randomly disappear for hours when using the box. I miss FIOS.
In Salt Lake City area we get: Discovery HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD, USA HD, History HD.
I just wish they'd add SciFiHD, that's my primary interest. And I'd love to see SpeedHD for HD Formula1 and Supercross racing!
Of course, I should mention that my digital cable has been frozen for the last hour. Good times.
Got the same notification (coming March 4) in the Arlington/Alexandria area.
Comcast? Don't you mean Time Warner Cable? Or have they not officially convert to TW in certain areas of the country yet?
I live in Reston and just got the new channel lineup postcard today. I think we are one of the very last areas to get these channels in Northern VA.
when will we peoples in Jersey get more HD channels - i hate seeing ppl w DirectTV get more HD channels than Comcast (me).
