Astro Systems introduces 56-inch 4K x 2K LCD monitor
If you thought a 4K x 2K resolution was a bit much for an 82-inch display, imagine what 3,840 x 2,160 pixels looks like on a 56-incher. Astro Systems is apparently gearing up to launch the DM-3400 to appease the "needs" (read: extravagant desires) of its digital cinema and broadcast studio clients, and by the looks of it, we doubt it'll have any issues accomplishing that. This bad boy also supports four channels of DVI and HD-SDI for some of that quad-view action, and there's even contrast, gamma and brightness adjustments for each RGB channel. Unfortunately, we've no idea how much coinage this beast will demand, but there's little no doubt that this is one of those "if you have to ask..." type scenarios.

Someone sitting 1.5 times the width of the display and with 20-20 vision can resolve 1100 line-pairs, one would need to either have considerable much better vision than 20-20 or be considerably much closer to the screen to resolve greater than 1100 line-pairs.
Not sitting closer than 1.5 times the screen's width nor having better than 20-20 vision means you will never 'see' the added resolution. Go get'em Tiger!
So if you get this tv the only thing that is going to look really good on it is IMAX ,right? I mean wouldn't this make even standard HD look kinda like standard TV does on an HDTV? I'm all for the best ,but you have to be realistic ,where are you going to get the content for this TV from?
Halliburton (as in Dick Cheney) did it!!!

*Cue evil Republican HDTV conspiracy theory*
Whatever happened to "Good Things in Small Packages"? I am currently looking for a replacement for my old (1985ish) 26" television set and I am extremely dismayed that I must go large to have good quality in a Flat screen. I don't want to fill up a living-space wall to be entertained and my news anchors don't need to "larger than life", their egos are big enough thank you. While I admit that being able to veiw natural vistas in its wide expanse like I was there could be interesting, I just don't have the room inside my house. More to the point, I cannot afford to purchase another domicile, and my current property is too small add a media room to my current home.
Can these wonderful, high quality panaramic details be put in a smaller device, or is that just not technologically feasible? Am I asking too much? Or am I,and others like me, not financially significant.
I await a response, but I'm not holding my breath. Nor am I expecting a satisfactory solution to my dilemma.
