Amazon's CEO recently said that the format was is great for them because they don't actually have much stock of either side -- so they don't need firesales to reduce inventory. These prices spell out stock-clearance. And if that is the case, then Paramount and Universal have to decide to participate in the HD-revolution and go Blu-Ray, og stick to standard definition DVD exclusively. Their present strategy translates into HD non-committal. Is that wise?

Paramount officials have already stated that Indy 4 will get the Blu-Ray treatment. Why not go all the way? The HD DVD Promotion Group exist in name only at this point in time.

I LOVE trolls on every site I go to, it makes things fun and more entertaining for me...especially at work. I do not understand why some sites "get off" on banning people left and right (Kotaku) over some silly BANTER. R we not adults here? When Toshiba throws in the towel (yeah thats right I said WHEN) on HD_DEAD, I think it would be a nice gesture to either give discounts on HD_DEAD trade-ins and/or make thier 1st Blu-ray players combo players.

I know Toshiba is bleeding money everyday and that they cannot continue in this much longer. I know that giving these discounts or trade-ins will rape thier treasury even more....but it would go a long way in showing that they give a shit about the 1 million early adopters that supported them.

Who knows what they will do, I only hope that they do it quickly so that I can see the BIG GUNS release on Blu.

There's a simple and rather opbvious little fact that your (misplaced) glee has blinded you to.

My Toshiba HD A/EP35 was and will always remain an incredibly great value deal.

It is and will remain (irrespective of whatever happens at some point in future) a very highly spec'd player giving me a great performance for years.

It will continue to play my (growing nicely with all these good deals) HD DVD collection beautifully and also my SD DVD collection to about as high a standard as they can be upconverted & played
(with many reviewers rating them along side the likes of the Denon SD DVD players - and yet it was a fraction of the cost of a Denon).

You can play little guessing games about what might happen in future if you like it must be a lot of fun, not.

I actually own a Denon SD DVD upscaling player, and my Blu-Ray-player outperforms it on upscaling too. It's not a magic attribute only belonging to Toshiba's already obsolete HD DVD players.

And while my Blu-Ray player AND Denon SD player both cost more than your Toshiba player, they where both made for and plays beautifully the format they where designed for and will continue to do so long after HD DVD is dead. And should either of them wear out from the burden of frequent use due to large and ever-growing selection of media, I will have no problem finding a replacement, thus ensuring the future value of my library.

And there's downloading (which IIRC gives me access to over 400 of the current Blu-ray catalogue right now too).

I have absolutely no shortage of high def to feed my TV, don't you fret about that.

What you can be sure of (to answer a question put to me last night by you) is that I will not be buying Blu-ray.

Why would I give them a dime for their clunky Java-based sh!te?
Or do anything to support that anti-consumer mess & blatant attempt to impose DRM at unprecedented levels on the consumer?
