Westport Charter Communications customers, rejoice! Despite CSRs stating HDTV would "never" come to the area, you should be getting 10 - 15 HD channels once upgrades are made to the head-end sometime this summer. The bandwidth gods will require one public access channel as an offering at the HD altar, which is a tradeoff we wouldn't even think about making. The real lesson here is in customer relations: Westport is a "standalone" community with approximately 4,000 Charter customers, but CSRs stating that HD would never come to the area certainly explains why about half of the homes have moved on to other providers. Both demand and
competition for HD-dollars is real, folks!
What's CSR's ?

Westport? I've lived in RI my whole life, never heard of it.
Thanks for the catch -- it's in MA, not RI; the original article was from a RI newspaper.
Charter Communications is the absolute WORST when it comes to technological advances. You guys know they're still stuck on that POS known as Moxy? While Verizon, Comcast, Warner move ahead on HD at a fantastic pace, Charter is absolutely slow in their markets.
My city, Reno, NV is actually a "standalone" community that has only Charter as it's cable provider. Not sure if it's a contract with the county or if other companies don't want to build new cable infrastructure, but having Charter as the only choice stinks. Why couldn't we haven't gotten stuck with Verizon or Comcast instead? I've vistited other cities with friends showing off their HD service and am amazed how much Charter lags. Amazing those buffoons in St. Louis still are operating.
Thank god for sattellite as an alternative.
