Sounds NOTHING like the one in my living room but good none the less. Wonder how this $300 jobby doo sounds (for the kids room).

takamaru

Comments on Sony's latest home theaters in boxes land

HT-CT100 looks just like what I've been waiting for: affordable, portable & easily set up.

Thank you Sony. Any ideas? Why can't I get all these things together? Why must I piecemeal everything at an exhorbitant price?

DoomGaZer

Comments on Sony's latest home theaters in boxes land

I don't know why people would get excited about this. I suppose systems like this can be used as a stopgap for someone who just dropped a huge chunk of change on an HDTV; it's nice to have surround sound. But I personally find that the sound is even more important to the home theater experience than the video; you should invest in better than this.

Puny plastic satellites certainly won't make you feel like you're there. And you can't make up for tiny satellites by throwing in a subwoofer -- you lose important directionality, and probably lose some of the lower midrange sound entirely. Sometimes they bring up the crossover to something ridiculously high like 120Hz in order to cover the inadequacies of the satellites, which only makes it painfully obvious when crossover occurs.

I'll admit, I'm posting a general rant here, and haven't tried this specific HTIB. But even if you go with HTIB, you should AT LEAST look for wood-housed speakers with a decent-sized center channel.

Raptor007

Comments on Sony's latest home theaters in boxes land

The HT-CT100 looks like a great value. $300 and it includes 3 HDMI ports! I am looking for a soundbar for my bedroom and this may fit the bill. My other option is the MainStageHD (though I don't have the budget for the matching subwoofer).

Tony Touch

Comments on Sony's latest home theaters in boxes land

I wonder why Sony doesn't have a high end HTIB with Blu-ray in it?

severian00
