Although Topeka's CBS affiliate is
about to be dropped by Cox Communications if it doesn't decide to pay up by midnight, the cable carrier is apparently trying to make up for said inconvenience by tossing in six new HD channels in the Kansas market. Exactly two months after these very folks were
gifted with HGTV HD and Food Network HD -- and under three months after
receiving CNN HD, TBS HD, Discovery HD and TLC HD -- along comes word that a half dozen newcomers have just stepped in. More specifically, a user report shows Travel Channel HD, Animal Planet HD, Science Channel HD, Versus / Golf HD, Cinemax HD, and NFL Network HD all showing up in the EPG and being available for viewing. We know, it would sting to lose CBS, but you folks definitely can't say you're starving for high-def.
[Thanks, Cory T.]
I noticed that Cox added the same channels in Virginia Beach Virginia but for some reason, I was not getting them. I was told by tech support that CABLECARD users would not be getting the new channels and that no timeline was given for when they would become available to CABLECARD users. I wonder if this is the same for Kansas users.
I dunno, but I live in Topeka and we haven't gotten them as of 2/29 at 2pm.
I didn't see them when I went home for lunch at noon either.
It looks like these are for the Wichita area and not for customers in Topeka. So for those keeping score at home Wichita +6 Topeka -1
Yeah, this is just for Wichita. Cox runs separate markets in Topeka and Wichita. I know Kansas may seem like one big block of 20 people, but its not. :-) Really wish they would add more worth while channels though. :-/
"Yeah, this is just for Wichita..."
My Cox service is always considered part of the Wichita market, and as of 3/1, we DO NOT have these new HD channels. I don't know what part of Kansas this story applies to, but apparently its not the Kansas part of Kansas.
I am honest to god tempted to switch to DirecTV just to get SciFi, USA and SPEED Channel in HD. Can anyone out there verify that DirecTV has the broadcast networks in HD in Topeka. According to their website they don't have HD locals but my co-worker swears that he watches all of the network stuff in HD from satellite. Now if only there was something to be done about their terrible DVR. I love my TiVoHD but if Cox doesn't get it's ass in gear soon I might just have to leave TiVo behind.
According to post #1589 on here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13262098#post13262098) they are NOT on DirecTV and won't be in 2008.
Seems like Cox here in Topeka is known for is non-stop Spangles ads and causing grief for CBS viewers here.. Cox needs to get Setanta Sports!!!
Even COX Manhattan has the new channels. It's not just Wichita. Topeka is just being neglected. They can't do anything right. We spent a year and a half dealing with them trying to figure out why every single week - if not sooner - our internet was going out. They told us to buy new TV's, told us to disconnect this and disconnect that... they said voltage was going through our cable lines then they didn't know what it was. Finally they did the line upgrade for our area to fiber and it fixed the problem. All they needed to do the entire time was switch out equipment at the back pole and it would've been fixed... a year and a half ago. They ****ing suck. Big time. I've been begging and requesting these new channels since it showed up on here and still nothing. It's bull****.
Almost three months after this came out and still no new HD channels for us here in Topeka (except for the VERY part time Royals HD channel that doesn't even show all the Royals games that are broadcasted in HD). I've called them numerous times and at one point was told within a few week we would have them but that was shortly after I saw this announcement so obviously that guy just wanted to get me off the phone.
