South Florida's NBC 6 takes local news high-def

No sooner than Comcast announced that it would be upgrading its infrastructure in sunny South Florida, along comes word that WTVJ (NBC 6) has finally made the leap to HD newscasts. Believe it not, the switch -- which happened without much warning yesterday -- makes it the first in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale area to broadcast local news in high-definition. It's shaping up be an excellent Spring to sit inside down there, isn't it?

Lynn Martinez... but she's on channel 7. i am happy about this because even though i don't watch the channel 6 news i do watch the channel 7 for their excessive gore when it comes to delivering the news i hope the other channels catch up. also since NBC and Telemundo are about the same company maybe i'll get to watch Spanish news in HD soon... i hope.

Here in Raleigh NC, we have had local news in HD since 2001... That's seven years for the math impaired. WRAL, the first local HD station in the country...

Isn't that crazy? Living here, I take HD news for granted. Pretty amazing how many big cities are still doing without.
