For a large chunk of HD aficionados, we won't even give a show a chance if it's not being brought to us in at least 720p. Still, for those sick and tired of having SD and HD programs on HGTV and Food Network on separate schedules, your life is about to get a whole lot better. All exaggeration aside, both of the aforementioned networks are set to start simulcasting their "standard-definition and high-definition feeds to cable and satellite affiliates beginning March 31." Potentially more interesting was the note that Food Network "plans to ramp up its production of high-definition programs and is upgrading its Chelsea Market studios in New York to full high-definition capability." So yeah, some of your favorite shows may get shuffled about a bit at the month's end, but that's what your HD DVR is there to manage, right?
Both of these networks are actually quite nice in HD. It's quite startling how much better food looks in HD.
Amen to that.. I love watching the intro to "Unwrapped" & "Good Eats" in HD.. so nice.
Shut up shut up! I'm already hungry now you're making me think of HD food and I don't know whether to eat or watch TV!!!
Thank you. About time! I understand the reasoning behind having just 24/7 HD programming with no SD programming at all, but it doesn't work when most of the HD programming is just endless repeats. It isn't uncommon for the Food Network HD to rebroadcast an episode 3 or 4 times a day.
At least now it will be easier to keep track of my wife and I's favorite Food Network shows, even if some are still in SD.
Nothing I like better than eating food and watching other people do home improvement projects.
Yeah, but when you're watching Food Network, do you do home improvement projects while you're watching other people eat food? :)
I must say, these two channels are have the best picture quality of any HD channels out there.
Now we get to see the grease dripping in HD..
Now we need the 2 Canadian versions of these channels to make the switch over to HD :)
About damn time. Watching old episodes of Good Eats in HD is fine, but I don't understand why new ones (which are filmed in HD) aren't aired on Food HD.
This actually addresses about four of my TiVo season passes, too. I love it.
I wonder if this means Fine Living Network and Scripps' other channels are going HD soon, since HGTV HD actually aired FLN content in addition to its own content.
Giada in HD please!
