It actually can be quite the irritant not being able to pass audio through the HDMI on the receiver. I have the HT-SR800 and if I was digital audio I have to have the HDMI and a separate audio connection. It makes things sorta messy back there, and also it will make it more difficult for the less tech savvy to have everything configured correctly.

new HD audio formats aside, the million dollar question is will it actually pass hdmi audio though, or only for video switching?
I'm sure it'll pass audio, but unless you have a player which can decode all of the next gen audio codecs it doesn't really matter.
