Netflix cops to surveying customers about Xbox 360 rentals

Seanbajuice's word is bond. A Netflix spokesman admitted the company had surveyed customers about using consoles to deliver movies, and stated that while Netflix is interested in getting movies to customers "in as many ways as possible," he didn't comment on whether a partnership was coming soon. Of course, we know it's been working on a set-top box with LG, and this would compete with Microsoft's existing Xbox Video Marketplace, but a tie-up could enhance the stature of both companies.
Digital is getting closer and closer.. Netflix on XBL this year, next year it will be HD rentals. Great start.
i hope they would offer the download service on the ps3 also, it makes more sense on ps3, since the ps3 has a bluray drive. also if they can get better audio support in downloads the ps3 is the only system that can do hd audio. the xbox is limited in tha area.
while downloads will not be able to compete with bluray in terms of sales or qualiy, it would be good to have an an extra feature. plus you can download 3-4 blu ray/and dvds at a time and have access to over 7000 SD downloads ad soon some "HD" downloads via netflix (not the same quality of hd, since hd downloads arent nearly that good at all, but are better than standard def in most cases.
No it doesn't make more sense on the PS3. Digital downloads will compete with Blu-Ray. BTW, by far most people won't notice or care about the quality difference and most certainly hardly anyone will care about HD sound support.
I'd sign up in a heart beat for it as well on the XBox.
The fact the PS3 has a Blu-Ray drive shouldn't matter at all as to whether a NetFlix download is better with PS3 or Xbox360 or any other console. You don't need a Blu-Ray player to play downloaded HD content.
The Bluray drive means nothing to a download, if anything it competes with it! Come on downloads!!!
The PS3 doesn't even have movies available on the PSN. XBLM at least already has movies and TV shows.
Then there is the MCE aspect of the 360, the networked DVR functionality, the codec support, etc.
MS and Sony have differing models for personal media. I personnally like the MS model better.

I notice more and more xBox owners saying this (not sure if it's a response to the PS3 or what). They say how great HD looks and then say how you don't notice a difference between resolutions...which is it? Sorry, but I notice a huge difference between HD-tv (720p or 1080i) and Blu-ray. Whether you want to admit it or not, it is noticeable and once you see it, it's tough not to see it.
i still wonder if they would really make it "compete" with the existing download service.... because if they merged the two services they will have a killer solution on their hands. something i think that could and would take significant "hd" marketshare from bluray netdflix.
ms wouldnt have use fr the marketplace downloads anymore. nextflix downloads are an extra feature to the standard mail in rentals. you ca rent 2-4 movies at a time, as well as unlimited download access. i hope they do ps3 as well. hell the could support the wii as well. the wii can actually do hd. but netflix has over 7000 sd downloadable movies right now.
The big problem with Xbox is a severely limited library. However the service works great, easy to use, very speedy servers, and the PQ is quite decent in SD and HD.
I'm on Mac so have never seen the PQ of Netflix download. But who wants to watch all their movies on a computer screen?
I thought the same thing when i first got netflix (about watching movies on your compute screen).
Then i got a VGA cable and hooked it to my HDTV and the PQ looks pretty decent for SD. I have watched the first 3 Office seasons in the past couple of weeks. Now they just need better movies...
Agree with Parick. Hooking the computer up to my hdtv and watching Netflix movies works great. A lot of the newer shows and movies are in 16:9 format, and appear to be close to 720p imo... but I guess that depends on internet speed.
We also know that Netflix's founder and CEO joined Microsoft's board last year.
Just so you know netflix, I would sign up for your service in a heartbeat if I could download via the 360.

That's why they are looking for different distribution options. Because producing, shipping, stocking and such of plastic boxes and mail pouches and mailmen...OMG I can't think about it anymore...Q
I'm all for it and I know the gf loves the idea since she already has a Netflix acct. Just as long as pricing is comparable (or better) to current XBVM prices. The XBVM library could definately use an increase in titles.
I bet you people forgot that Netflix first did the same survey asking about service on the PS3. Netflix has been wanting to put their service on both consoles. but its gonna turn out one of them buying the exclusive rights. Im hoping Sony does since they dont have much of a download service at this point.
i think HD movie download rentals for 360 would be cool. long as they're 1080p and not too expensive :-)
I think MS should add a XBOX Live Platinum that would include the Netflix membership. Either way, I would cancel my blockbuster account in a second.
I have a PS3 primarily for BD. Yeah, I now own 5 games, but play maybe 1 hour/month.
I'd buy a second PS3 for the main downstairs TV in a heartbeat if it gave me access to Netflix "on demand".
A lot of the comments here point to HD downloads on either the Xbox or PS3. No thank you. I own an Xbox 360 with the 20 gig hard drive and I'd rather not have to download a 2-3 gig file to watch a movie. Streaming media FTW...
