Finding out that you'll be receiving
11 new high-def channels makes for a fairly enjoyable day -- discover that
double that will be arriving and you might as well spark up a formal celebration for the entire neighborhood. Reportedly, Comcast subscribers in the Normal / Bloomington, Illinois region (formerly
Insight territory) -- including Bartonville, Bellevue, Creve Coeur, East Peoria, Norwood, Peoria Heights, Peoria, Tazewell County (Peoria), Wasthington and West Peoria -- will be seeing 22 new HD channels as of April 30th. We're also keeping our fingers crossed that this is a precedent that will extend to other areas of the country in the not-too-distant future. Think you can handle the list? It's waiting after the jump (and shown above).
[Thanks, Mike and Adam]

I have to say, if Time Warner doesn't improve their offering soon, I am switching to Satellite....
I live in Loves Park (Rockford, IL) and just got pretty much the same letter. I'm thrilled. We were formerly Insight and the announcement was made last year that Comcast would be taking over Jan 1, 2008. Insight's HD lineup was weak and my hope was that Comcast would beef it up. I'm especially happy about WGN HD and CSNHD. Go Cubbies!
UP next.....Houston please!
Yes please please please, I'm getting sick of the 10 we have.
I got a message on my cable box stating that I would start getting Food network HD, TLC HD, and about 2 other channels on or around March 31st. So Comcast is adding more channels all across the US. I already have most of the channels listed, so things are great.

Oh so darn close. I'm in Springfield, IL where Comcast took over for Insight here at the first of the year. Hopefully I'll get one of these letter soon as well.
I'm in Peoria, IL and I just got this exact letter today. I'm actually one of the guys that gave EngadgetHD the news (I'm Adam). I can't wait. I was just waiting until either Dish Network or DirecTV offered locals in HD in Peoria and I was gonna switch. But now that Comcast is actually adding quite a bit of HD content in my area, I'm MUCH less tempted to switch. Sure satellite has ALOT of channels, but I don't care what the satellite companies claim, the picture still goes crazy in bad weather.
Oh comeon! I live in Champaign, less than 60 minutes away!
Hurry up Comcast!
I'm feeling a little envious. In some respects it seems they are catching up. Here's the channel my local TWC is missing from the list.
ABC Family HD
Disney Channel HD
TLC HD
USA HD
AMC HD
Sci-Fi HD
Comcast SportsNet (Chicago) HD - Local
WGN HD - WGN is weird.
NFL Network HD - Don't even get regular NFL Network
People in Illinois watch WGN for one reason and one reason alone. Cubs games.
@ Loban
sweet, people in Iowa watch it for the same reason!
Cablevision needs to start following in these footsteps or they are going to start losing lots of customers.
I just bought a house in Bloomington. I guess I need to get an HD TV now. I've already got the HDHomeRun. Maybe I'll get lucky and they're opening these channels in the clear! HA. On an unrelated note, Comcast jacked up the cost of internet here in town. Jerks.
Woohoo!! Just got the same letter for the Springfield, IL area. Can't wait for all those new HD channels. Now if I could just decipher their pricing structure to figure out what I am gonna be paying every month.
Why no love for the Urbana-Champaign area?
Would be nice if you could just buy the basic package and add the Digital start package to it. Plus how can you drop half the channels from the HD pak and only drop the price 12%?
I assume I'm not the only one who's totally confused no the package and pricing structure. I guess I'll wait until I get my first bill after the changes to worry about it.
I wish we'd hear this same news for the Bloomington/Martinsville/Greenwood/Franklin, Indiana market who were former Insight properties, but so far nothing at all.
i got mine today and live in champaign YAY
i am grandfathered in at $121 a month for a year digital preferred + HD pack and 10mbps Internet, did i get lucky or taken for a ride?
Come on COMCAST customers! Demand they add HDNet and HDNet Movies. Far and away better than the stretch-o-vision crap channels Comcast has BEEN adding all across the country.
Insight gave you HDNet and HDNet movies for years before Comcast took over, so they are still there.
I just switched to dish. I absolutely will never, ever look back. Even with Comcast's new HD offerings I still have 3 1/2 times the HD channels.
DirecTV is adding Peoria locals in HD at the end of May.
I've already gone through a few good storms and have yet to lose signal. The new dish standard is wide enough that it gets enough signal to ride through pretty much everything.
